ppl w/ oem fog's

quick question on the wiring, does you parking lights need to be on to have the fogs on, or does it require the headlights to be on to have the fog lights be on? just wondering cause i know some cars require the headlights to be on, and if that's the case, i'll modify the wiring harnest so i can have either the fogs themselves only on, or the fogs and parking lights on w/o the headlights...make any sense? i think i just confused myself, but any help would be great

djmota is just really nicedjmota is just really nicedjmota is just really nicedjmota is just really nice
same as above, dealer install.
but one more thing. they only work on low beam not hi beam. think about it really hard before you start moding wiring you don't want to bridge any circuits that should't or put too much load on wires that were not ment to take it.

I got the OEM style fogs from Procarparts. The way the instructions tell you to wire them will work the lights as follows: Low beam headlights on = fogs on. Parking lights or high beam headlights on = fog lights off. But, I wanted the ability to have the fogs on anytime any of the lights were on, so I wired mine differently. I dumped half the wiring it came with, including the relay, checked some of the other wires with a line tester to see how to wire them and wallah! Only thing was, I smoked two switches because all the current was running through the plastic switch (which wasn't meant to take all that power) so I went to radio shack and got a high voltage toggle instead. I'm very happy with the way it works now. If my fogs are switched on, I can use them with parking lights only, or the low or high beams. I also have the ability to switch them off anytime.

I realize that OEM wires the fogs to be on only with the low beams, and that may be the law in some places, but if you are really needing to drive in bad fog, etc, you need to have the fog lights so you can have them on with just the parking lights. It defeats the purpose to have the low beams on with light bouncing back at you from the fog.

Properly installed OEM STYLE replica fogs appear completely OEM. There is no discernable difference.

The installation wasn't too bad, take your time cutting out the plastic. To get the wires through the firewall, I used a straightened out clothes hanger. Push it through the rubber behind the passenger's feet (behind the carpeting). Once through, I used duct tape to attach the wires to the hanger and then pulled the hanger back through.

Yeah, the toggle I used was catalog #275-325 from radio shack. About $3. It's very tiny. The posts on the switch are very small, so I soldered the wires directly onto them. Then, I drilled out a small hole in the plastic piece that pops out next to the power socket and installed the switch behind. Very clean, very nice looking. I wish I had a digicam, I'd attach a picture.

You still need the relay.

The switch you discribed only handles about 5 amps. The lights pull about 15. Eventually, you will burn out the switch and cause a short.

Use the switch to turn on the relay,

You could hook up a fuse to power one terminal of the switch and terminal 30 of a relay. Then wire the other terminal of the switch to terminal 85. Connect 86 to ground. Then terminal 87 to the lights. Use a 20 amp fuse and route all wires through a grommet.

Actually, it is rated 10 amps @ 125 volts. I don't know how to equate that to the 12 volts DC that the car's electrical system puts out, but I've had it hooked up for over a month now without any problems whatsoever. Conversely, the plastic switch that came with the lights burned out after just a couple of hours of operation.
