not sure what the whole thing about PORCELAIN is about, but if you want a header that is gonna provide you with more than just a cosmetic upgrade, go with the HP 4-1 RACE header. if you dont really care for the extra HP that this header provides, then go with either the DC or HP SHORTY 4-2-1 headers. there have been many discussions about this, but you need to know that if you buy the HP 4-1 RACE header, not only is it not legal or CARB approved, but it also requires some alteration to your frame/engine mounts. personally, i have that header, and couldnt possibly be any happier than i am with this mod. i think its the best mod for our cars for the price. BTW, the DC Ceramic headers are pieces of S H ! T...

if we get the 4-1 headers, wont that give us less low end power??? i heard that 4-2-1 headers are more for street use, and are made for better low to mid range power, is this ture?

I liked my cheapy ebay 4-1 header. its kinda a pain though cuz I over torque on it too much and I got a bolt stock in it right now. lol.

I duno, all it has is bigger pipping.. I really felt some low end increase though. Its really really not in my head. which surprised me.

our stock design is 4-1 (for a ex)

I wonder what the HP shorty 4-2-1 looks like.. I mean there's not much space to get something like that going.

for best gain, a straight pipe 1 piece header design like the HP 4-1 race header with downpipe is best.. the 1 piece design is best...

I think the DC header are way too expensive for what its worth.. u should just get a cheaper one.

No modding needed for a shorty header. The DC header looks just like the oe except that it is every so slightly larger. I have the DC ceramic header and me **** did feel a definate gain in the mid-range, but I swear the top-end suffered.

The DC sport is not a piece of poop as someone else stated. It's a high-quality part but don't expect to get the same hp gains as the hp race setup.

Do you have a lx model? If yes, no it does not.

If you have an ex, you don't need it.

Yep, you'll be fine with basically any header on the market. The dc will be fine.

A 'shorty header' is what we have on our cars. It just means that the tubes are very short and the exhaust manifold is two seperate pieces. It's just because it's so small. Wait until you get the dc header and you'll think they sent you the wrong one. It looks like it's for a motorcycle or something.

On a side note, the dc does give noticeable gains but I don't think it's worth the money. I got a super-deal on mine used. I would strongly research a little bit and check out the hp race header with the high-flow cat. This will give the most hp as far as headers are concerned. However, it does require the mutilation of the front engine mount, if you have a manual tranny, and a simulator for the 02 sensor that plugs into the cat.

The dc does look good though.

so if i were to order a dc header, i would receive that little top piece like our stock and not the big L shaped header that angles under the car? i would get hp but yeah the whole cutting mount and illegal dealy.

Yep, you just remove the 4 bolts where the manifold connects to the engine and the 2 bolts where it connects to the downpipe. Then, replace the oe part with the dc and put the bolts back in. It's a 45min job. No sensors or anything like that to worry about. It's carb legal as well. Of course, hp does make a shorty header too. It looks exactly like the dc header but the tubes' diameters are much larger. Either way, it's a simple bolt-on.

If you really want the DC header, get it. You won't get the gains of the hp race version but it is a high quality part, looks very nice, and you will be able to tell the difference.

All this talk about headers and cats... I'm thinking of replacing my stock header and cat in the spring.

What I haven't seen discussed in this thread are ACTUAL, DYNOed horsepower gains. By most accounts it looks like the HP 4-1 race header is the best one to go with - but how much hp are we talking about here?

Check out the parts link at the top of the page. Also, simply search for whatever part you are looking for through yahoo, google, etc., and you'll get links to online stores.

The hp should be carb legal as it is exactly like the oe, only bigger.

im just gonna check to see if the hp shorties are legal... if they are, then i believe i would have no other choice than to go with the header that gives more gains than any other... hp! but i'll keep you posted mbow... i just got a digital camera today so when i get a header, maybe i'll post some pics too!
p.s. if anyone knows if the hp shorty header for my ex manual coupe is legal (or illegal) feel free to tell me... it would save me some trouble. thanls!

the hp header is legal b/c its just the upper half. its doesn't replace the downpipe/or catalytic converter.

someone said earlier in this thread that only the EX manual tranny needs to have the motor mount cut. So would the LX manual tranny need no modifications, can someone clear this up??
