Yep: DC's TCS exhaust complies with both emmisions and noise regulations in California.

that's what i thought. but if you goto wholehyper.com and you read their notes on the header section, it says "*** - 2000 - 01 model year not legal for sale or use in a California Pollution - Controlled vehicles. Carb exemption applied for."

Check the TCS page at DC Sports' site...

It says it's "50 state legal".

If you think it may be questionable, wrap your exhaust line in insulation and let it run a while before taking it for inspection. The added heat will help the catalytic converter clean up the exhaust better.

If you plan on sticking with the stock cat, then why buy any perfromance parts. You are so limited by the stock cat that it is all a waste of money. Can't you california people just switch back to stock when you get tested anyway?

thanks for all the info. so both dc headers and tcs will pass smog test.
one other question is, does dc tcs replace stock cat? I don't think it does. if not, where can u get performance cat?

I don't think there are aftermarket cats that will pass a smog test. The best one right now is the HP cat but I just got it and it doesn't have any CARB legal info with it.

the most power will come from the HP setup, but unfortunately they aren't carb legal because of the high flow cat. All the dc sports stuff is legal for our cars.

The reason for the "Cat-Back" setup is due to legality issues. Replacing the cat isn't really legal unless its like damaged or something. But to replace it for performance (IE: Highflow cat) has been deemed illegal

no. because there are also noise regulation in each states.. so check if the decible volume being pumped out by the exhaust is legal.

Technically, in California it's illegal to replace your muffler with one that is louder. But heck, who cares. The fact is most smog places don't care whether you have a loud muffler, headers and a high flow cat. They'll check your emissions and pass you as long as you're within spec. If they won't, go someplace else.

On a related note, what is the flow of the stock EX cat??? Anyone know??? I'm curious because when I put on the exhuast, it didn't look like much of an impediment to exhaust flow.

doesnt C.A.R.B only apply to California? I know this is a dumb question but I just learned that Catback meant from the Cat converter back. I am kinda dumb like that sometimes. Maybe if ole Arny gets Gov. tomorrow, he can change all these restrictions on mods. I doubt it though since this new Hydrogen thing is coming out.
