RIMS?

hEY WASSUP GUYS,
im window shopping for Rims and I think i narrowed it down to a racing hart c5, rh evo, and ADR--All 18 inch rims..
The thing is whats al lthe different numbers represent in plain english?

18 x 7.5 18 x 8, 18 x 9 ? do the 2nd #s represent how wide the rims are?

also

240/40/18 <~~~ Width (how wide the tires) / Ratio (no clue) / 18 (diameter)

well, ur gonna wanna aim for a 18x7.5... 18x8 is pushing the envelope a lil, meaning that there just isnt enough depth in our wheels for wheels this wide, but it can be done using a narrow tire. anything wider than 8 inches is just ridiculous unless you rip out the inner wheel well at all 4 corners. the widest tire you will be able to fit in there comfortable is the 215 i believe. i think 225's might fit, but i wouldnt recommend because i have 215/40/18's on my ride, and the front tend to rub a lil when making sharp turns...
also the other aspect of wider tires and rims is that you may end up needing to roll your rear wheel well lips... fyi...

i need some clarification on the first #, and 2nd #..Ex. what does the 215 stand for and what does 40 stand for... is 215 the thickness of the tire(just guessing)?

get schooled. seriously, this is general information available everywhere so "asking to learn" at this point actually becomes more of a nuisance for everyone that already knows the answers.

more stuff from a previous post

215 or 205 is the width of the tire in millimeters.
40 is the aspect ratio; the sidewall is 40% of the width.
17 is the wheel diameter.

THEREFORE, when comparing the sidewalls, 215/40/17 to 205/40/17,
40% of 215mm is greater than 40% of 205mm.

HOWEVER, we're looking at a 4.0mm difference (that's 0.2in for you domestic types)

it's a difference of about 12 rotations per mile. for every mile driven, the smaller tires
spin 12 times more than the larger tire.

it's enough to have the vehicle pull to one side, but very faintly. as for wheel gap?
i'll save that for the next class.
