News on HP's 4-1 headers with high flow cat.
Alright, I've heard a lot of things about these headers. The main things are:
a) These headers are the best for our cars.
-and-
b) They do not fit.
I've even heard that they supposedly only fit on the automatic trannied Civic sedans, but I can't verify that.
On THIS site under the products and parts it clearly states that a distributor of HP Racing's products claimed that the HP 4-1 headers with high flow cat were being discontinued and redesigned. Is that true? My friend (OverTheTop) called them up and talked to a guy who told him the very same thing. Then he talked to one of the technicians to HP who told him different. He said that they NEVER planned on discontinuing the headers nor redesigning them. Why? Because they do fit. They have heard about people complaining about the headers that they had to slice of part of the motor mount... well, you're not supposed to put them on that way! They do fit... but putting them on is slightly different than the way you normally put headers on to the car.
There are two ways to do it. I do not have all the details on how but my friend does (he gave this info to me over the phone) and I will give them out later today when he gets off at work.
Oh, and one more thing... the dyno tests show that this part gives you +14HP. HP's other headers give about half that amount. (EDIT: Think how much better it'd be with intake and exhaust? Well, actually I know... and it's a worthy header.)
Oh, and the bad news is they raised their price on it.

So your friend had no trouble installing his, please when he lets you know how he did let us know, I for one, am looking at buying them but don't really want to shave the motor mount. If his instructions are good then I will definetely buy one right away, thanks for the head up on the product.

His reason for calling was to order them. We have someone on our team who has them already and he had to shave his motor mount on his LX coupe. As far as I know, the proper way(s) to put them on is a bit more challenging but at least you don't have to chop somethin off.
I'll keep you guys updated A.S.A.P..

You might as well not wait anymore since nothing is going to change, Trev. So why not order them?
If you wanna see what's up for yourself, here's HP Racing's #. If someone talks to you about new 4-1 headers with cat, then tell them a technician there explicitly said that there's no such thing and you would like to speak with one of their techies: 800-522-7855. I'd call myself but I can wait on my friend to tell me how to install them. If you can't, then call!

I have got to hear how you install this header w/o cutting the mount. I just can't imagine how it would fit. Anyhow, maybe they raised the price because the package includes a simulator for the 2nd sensor now. Did they confirm that they now ship with the sim or not? I just might go ahead and get the darn thing...

My friend is online but he's not answering his AIM!
I just got it off ebay for $225 shipped. I have an Auto EX which seems like the car that would have the least problems? One question for anyone that might know. I am going to go get a new gasket for the header at Honda and I am wondering if there are any otehr gaskets I need besides the one between the header and engine? Also, does this header and cat bolt up the stock exhaust piping? Thanks
NBP.. you better keep us updated... damn we need a final word in here.. everything is all guessing games... so far.. the trend is that it fits on AUTO EX's... not sure if 4dr and 2dr matter... actually no one is sure of anything.. ahhhhhhh.... come on.. wtf is up with HP?? we need straigh answers here...!!!

It should bolt up to the stock exhaust pipe. If it doesn't, then how can it fit aftermarket exhausts when all the pipe does is bolt up to the stock cat?
My only question about it is... is the cat converter AND headers one piece? Or are they seperate? Just wondering because if I have to go through a smog check, I doubt the car will pass emissions with a different cat converter... I live in Cali. But in the end, I might end up just taking the headers off, too.
EDIT: He went to sleep.
EDIT 2: NBPCivic, when are you expecting the headers?

I paid for them yesterday which means they probably went out today. Possibly Friday or early next week. I start school next wednesday so it better be before that. I also have rims and a strut bar coming and I want my stuff!!!

O.K. check it...........
I just got off the phone W/ Frank w/ HP in the tech dept.
He said the 1 piece header and cat you will always have to "shave" (what he said) (I said cut).....they will not change it. He noted it as the "race"
They now have a 1piece header and seperate piece cat.(2 pieces)
he said w/ the 2 peices you don't have to modify anyhting. You get the same gains and it's around the same price.....
And also the price prob raised because they NOW DO ship w/ the o2 sensor.(the full 1 piece cat and header)
Also if you just buy the cat seperate it also comes w/ an o2 sensor.......
So thats that.
........
I think i'll go w/ the 2 seperate pieces.......don't have to chop my mounts.......

Trevor, can you clarify what you mean about the sensor on the seperate downpipe. Does it have a spot fo the sensor or does it come with a simulator?
Oh, if you get the seperate downpipe that mates up to the shorty headers like the oem ones, when it comes time for the emissions test, it will be a simple matter of switching back to the oem downpipe--A thirty minute job.

Thanks, Trev! So it is just one piece... hmm...
These are the horsepower gains.
4 into 1 headers with downpipe and cat converter (3 piece) = +7HP
4 into 1 headers with high flow cat converter (1 piece) +14HP (BLUENVY01 has these on his car... to say the least, it's because he's got the fastest car on our team... but he can thank ME for that!)
4 into 2 into 1 headers = +5HP (OverTheTop has these on his car with intake and exhaust... doesn't like them, and neither do I.)
This is what I was told by OverTheTop as I just got off the phone with him, and this is what he was told from HP. Basically if you want the gains, you gotta get the one piece with the cat converter.
When he gets his headers he will make a DIY on it. I just got off the phone with him and he couldn't talk for long. He tried explaining to me what they said on how to put the 4-1 with cat converter on but I couldn't hear him clearly from the wind blowing in his phone so he's gonna call me back pretty soon.

Dang Sonic, I guess I will order the race version then. Euro sells them for $280 but they have always said to call them to place your order. They have posted many times that they will sell it for around 250 to 7thgen members. If it comes with the simulator, I would call it a great deal. I have a link to a sim that is $45 in itself.
Anyhow, I gotta hear how you fit it in there w/o cutting the mount. The outside tube passes directly through that part of the mount. I can't understand how you could install in such a way to prevent this. I have gotta hear how it's done! For 14hp, I will cut the mount and end this horrible waiting....

Since it sounds like you're messing with the cat, will your car still be legal once you install these?
+14hp for $280?!

If it's true, I know what my next purchase will be!

Finally a worthwhile part for our little D blocks!
I hope more come along.
We've been anxious to dyno BLUENVY's ride. There is a 12HP gap between the LX and EX and I'm assuming he must've got a good amount of HP if he can take out EXs with his 18 inch SubZeros on. He also has a short ram intake with GReddy EVO exhaust on his LX coupe.

yea, I raced bluevy01 when I was down in Cali...I had a passenger and huge system.....w/ EX 5speed....he's LX 5speed.........He beat me........I was pissed.....and I can drive......
but anyway.....yea I talked to bill (overthetop) yesterday too. He called me....(thanks bill)....and he told em the whle story.....the HP 1 piece (header, cat, downpipe) Is the one to get......all the gains come from that. I guess HP says it can fit with out mods to the motor mount.......but you have to lift the engie out to do so.
..wierd.
But anyway, yea overthetop is getting his header here pretty quick.......like sonic said he will post a DIY (prob. on BA7genz) but yea.......14hp!!!!!.......holly shiiiiiiiettttttt!!!!!
........
And I believe it cause I saw an LX beat me.......and the other LX (there were 3 of us racing on a 3 lane rd)......the other Lx was a bit further back them me......so I dunno.....but I'm pretty positive w/ the gains......which kicks **** finally a mod worth while.......
also the HP one piece jason(blueny01) said the car kinda runs funny from 0 to 4,000 or so RPM's......Don't quote me on it but yea.....he said it jets after that........
where is blueny01????.......
So it does look like the 1 piece is the way to go.......just have to slice our motor mounts

hey guys, sorry, just finally found this thread...
anyways, yah, i have the 1 piece RACE header from HP with their Hi-Flow Cat, followed by a Greddy Evo catback. yes, the car is incredibly faster than stock. how much? i dont know yet, i havent had the chance to stick my ride on a dyno yet, mainly because of the cost of a dyno... $125 per hour. not worth it unless you have a mechanic to help tune ur car with u. anyways, yes, there are two modifications that i had to make to my engine mounts. (1) there is an attachment of some kind that im not really sure wut it was for, but basically we chopped it off the block. this alteration has rendered no problems, and i dont think it will. i will try to get pictures of this soon for you guys. (2) on the lower front bar of the frame, where the bottom of the radiator, A/C, etc.. attach to, there is a lower engine mount. this engine mount isnt TOO much of a problem, being that we installed the header with only A SMALL amount of difficulty. Once the header and everything is bolted up, it looks fine, because there is a lil space between the side wall of the mount, and the header tube. However, once the car is started, u might notice a lil tapping or clankin noise in very low idles when ur engine is shaking a lil, or when you rev hard in acceleration. this is that header tube slapping against that side wall of the engine mount. now, if u leave this alone, and allow the rattling to continue, its possible that one day you will soon find a hole in your header from where the STEEL FRAME wore right through that header. then ur money was just wasted on that header for nothin... wut i did was SHAVE the side of that mount. but where the confusion lies here, is that i at no point sacrificed the integrity of the mount. i never actually shaved anypart of the mount that is in direct contact with the frame. the part that i shaved was an extruding part of the mount that really isnt necessary and for that matter, im not really sure why they made it soo big in the first place. i'll try to get some UP CLOSE pics for you guys of what i did... so you can see how none of these mods really affected any part of the engine mounting system.

I was going to order the header w/high-flow cat tomorrow. Euroelectronics says they are on national backorder at the moment and to check back with them in 2-3 weeks. They also said it was shipping with the sim and to ask again when the new shipment arrives. I finally decide to order the darn thing and I can't get one.
