HID kit/ angel eye/ projectors questions
ok. ive searched enough.
i know you cant get an HID kit with a high beam. apparntly you need another bulb housing for the high beam.
so my qustion is, can i put the phillips HID kit on with the angel eye projector lights?
i think i may be missing something. im pretty sure you can put the HID into one housing and a plain bulb into the highbeam housing.
what other HID kits are there besides phillips and how much do they all cost?
how much do angle eyes cost now? whats the cheapest place to get them.

Here are some cheap ones. I dunno if the ebay ones actually light up blue. I emailed them and they told me people who have bought from their company claim they light up blue in the center.

If you just want to use it in regular projectors, then you will need an H3 kit, and wire an additional halogen bulb to the high beams. Try groupbuycenter.com, you will be able to find many different brands, such as Vision, K2, etc.

on the contrary, there are dual filament (low & high beam) HID kits for the H4 style bulb, but they will cost you $500. most projectors take H3 low beam bulbs, but the current halo projectors use H1 for low and high beams.
Actually, HIDs have no filament. The Bixenons use a mechanical shield to switch between high and low beams. If it's a projector for 7th gen civics, then he will need H1s. I recommend retrofitting it with a set of projectors from an Audi or BMW for best beam pattern.
i heard the angle eye is really hard to see. they only show up good when you only have parking lights on at night... other than that, they can't be seen during the day and they just blend in when you have full lights on.

Yes you can install "True" Hid retrofits into your lowbeam H1 socket and just plug the ballast to the h1 connector pin. You can also install a regular h1 into the high beam directly to the h1 pin. This will give you HID low beam and Halogen High beam, but will not be on at the same time so be carefull constant power drop and flickering can cause your HID arc bulb to detonate leading to a very costly repair (avg. 130 per bulb). One thing your gonna learn as soon as you retro your HIDs into your housing is that the light will never be as good as OEM because;
1) Angel eye projector ellipsoids are "flutted" meaning its textured glass designed for filament light, thus emanating stray light and glare.
2)H1 halogens are over 17 mm shorter than any d2s or d2r HID arc capsule so some depth modification will be needed.
2)the parabolic reflectors in the projector housing was not designed for arc light therefore foreground beam pattern will scatter all over the road more so in some places than others ( hotspots or darkspots)
If your willing to troubleshoot and DIY retro all of these factors into your housing good luck to you. Im sure you'll have fun with em despite.

Actually, I have done this exact retrofit that you are all talking about. At least with my HID kit, the low beams DO indeed stay on with the high beams activated. I was concerned that they might not, however the ballast is supplying constant power to the HID bulb when the high beam is activated (i.e. no flickering). No depth modification was necessary to fit the HID capsule into the projector housing. However you will need to widen the actual bulb opening a bit to fit the HID capsule in. I did this with a standard drill and are large drill bit. It is true that the ellipsoids are fluted, however the beam pattern is actually pretty good. The cutoff is very sharp and there seems to be much less glare than there was when I had HIDs installed in my stock headlight housing.
However, honestly, the light output to the ground is much less than with the HID retrofit in the stock housing. Perhaps it is the quality of the ellipsoids, but I really miss the light output of the HIDs in my stock housing. However, the HIDs in my projectors are superior to halogens in the stock housing as far as light output is concerned, and I have truly awesome high beams. Here are some pics, HID Projectors.

Lotsamula thanks for the reply, i actually did not do the angel-eye retrofit, but have retrofitted HID's in both my stock halogen housing and my friends apc projector housing and came to this conclusion. Since any halogen ellipsoid does not have smooth texture you're blocking alot of primary (yellow light) which halogen projectors are designed for. This light under the 4100k scale is vital to lumen output and can only be achieved through "non flutted" or HID projector ellipsoids. Thats the reason why your output was alot greater in your stock housing than in your projector's. Im sure you already know that putting HID projectors like Hella 90mm or 60mm would be the best results, but its also time consuming and somewhat complicated for the average DIYer. Hehe, yeah, I drive a hybrid. [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/IMG] I bought the car mainly just for my commutes since I drive around 165 miles per day. However, I am falling in love with this car. It is sooo smooth and quiet that it reminds me of some higher priced luxury car. And this little beast gets almost 50 MPG!!! Real soon, I will upload pics of my Eclipse 7301 5.8" LCD CD/Tape Receiver that will be hooked up to a new Alpine DVD-based Nav. System along with a DVD Player and TV Antenna. I have all the components right now. I'm just trying to decide on speakers before doing the install. If any of you have any suggestions, please shoot them my way. I'm not interested in any subwoofer because it might interfere with the Hybrid battery pack that is located behind the rear seats. I just want really good factory replacements. Thanks.
BTW, I purchased my HID off of Ebay. The person I purchased the kit from personally puts all his kits together using only top quality parts (hella ballasts, ISO 9002 bulbs, etc.), packages them without alot of flare and sells them on Ebay for a discount. Here is one of his latest auctions that just ended:
