yes i believe i was told that the chip is in the black hard rubber part that leads to a sensor at the tip of the key, i was told to becareful not to drop our keys too much cause you could damage the tip of the key, and thats also why spare keys cost like $65 dollars to make.

Yes they are...there is a device in the key itself that sends a signal to the ignition to start the car. If you do not have this device you can't start the car. I think all hondas have this feature.

maybe not computer coded but they do have a microchip inserted into the black rubber of the key, it transmitts a CODE(frequency) to the ignition control unit, then starts the igniton. thank you

uh, yeah, my parents tried to be cool and made a copy of my key, it didn't work and they couldn't figure it out. it was because of that little signal. it's the same signal from any honda key, but the lack of the signal means the engine isn't going to do anything.

That is correct. This is why you keep hearing the word "immobilizer" thrown around so much. You know that little green key light on the gauge panel that lights up whenever you turn your car on and off? That's the immobilizer. It will only allow a properly coded key to start your car. At least, that's what it's SUPPOSED to do.

Does that mean that you have to have the key in to start your car if you get a start push button. It would make me feel better about them.

I don't even know if a push button starter would work with our cars unless you disable the immobilizer . . . can anyone answer this?

There is a way to get around that. It's been discussed on threads here. Maybe search the tech threads. Or the DIY.
