I heard it's bad to get a sunroof aftermarket. Something about weakening the structure or integrity of the car. At least that's what the salesman at Honda told me back in 98. But who knows, he might have been on crack.

i have heard from several people that aftermarket sunroofs often leak, and they lessen the integraty of the car. so if u do get one make sure it is either from the dealer or a very repertable shop.
should alway get a car with sunroof, aftermarket sunroof is not as nice built as the one built in honda plant
so i suggest leave it alone and spend that money on somehting else
i dont want anyone drill a hole on my roof even i am dieing for a sunroof

I wonder how much that will cost if the dealer does it? But if I had to pick a place that would be where I would go just so that it is done right and should be under some kind of warranty. If anyone know the price on that post it please.
i love when people respond.."you should have just gotten an EX"..."you should have just gotten a 5speed"....the questions is obviosly..what can be none now...not what should have been

well i wanted a sedan too but they dont make the sedans with sunroofs up here and if they were gonna put one in then
it was gonna be installed by another company anyways so why would i pay the markup i'm just gonna wait a bit because
i know the shop that does it for honda dealerships around here and they give you a warrantee.

Your local Honda dealer isn't gonning to install anything that looks like the factory EX roof, they will install one of the available aftermarket models. Long, long ago, aftermarket sunroofs had a reputation for leaking, but they fixed that with hi-tech sealants and gaskets.
it's like merz said. Even if you go back to the honda dealer there is no such thing as an OEM sunroof. They are all aftermarket or factory installed. the only drawback is the aftermarket sunroof will always open outside the car (like the eclipses) it will not retract into the roof like the Ex's. I would suggest just finding a reputable shop outside and getting it done with a good warranty on it, that is exactly what a dealer is gonna do anyway, just send it out to get done. If you talk to your dealer he may be nice enough and tell you where they get theirs done.

dont do it, weakens the car...not to mention it will never be right and you will leak with it. the place installing a sunroof will cut the holes, slap a window in. most people dont even know about drainage holes, and itis too much work to do.

If you search around the different forums, you still might find that thread.
EDIT :: ok, I found that thread for you, and that member was WhopSi : aftermarket moonroof
And I still can't believe how little he paid for it : $650 canadian!
lol yeah well you guys gave me some clear direction... ill just jump in my time machine n go buy an ex model instead. oh wait, see the ex models were more money n after a certain amount of features u cant afford anymore... but yeah i talked to the honda dealer, they gave me an aftermarket place that they go to for those type of modifications. it is 700 bucks for an automatic one that slides back n sticks up sorta... its 900 bucks for one that slides into the roof. so yeah im not sure what to do. yeah n if it does weaken the structure, basically if i get into an accident, im gona be screwed, so y not be really screwed???
I bought my LX and inquired about a sunroof. They said it was no big deal said it would only be $500 (US) and I had to wait 2 days for the car and since they did it would be covered under my warranty.

I have an LX and I want a sunroof in mine. I actually like the ones that slide outside the car. I was gonna buy the Si just for the moonroof, but after test driving it, I realized I couldn't even fit streight in the back. Also, the ones that slide out can be bigger since you're not restricted by the size of the roof to allow for the slide, like the prelude, the sunroof hangs way over the back window.
They were installing powered sunroofs for $1500 at Ziebart where I got my tint done, but $650 is even better.
hi, are you sure?
all 7gen civic I have seen on street all have moon roof that tilt.
also if you go to the canada honda site, they will say moonroof with tilt function. Do I assume it can tilt and also goes in? I wouldn't think so. Yeah, inside you have a cover that goes into the car, but the moon roof glass part actaully only tilt.
and by the way, you are in canada? how come you don't know the existance of Lx sport? that is Lx with body kit and wheels and moonroof.

I am the one that's going to dig this thread up, $995+tax Canadian to have power moonroof installed, 5 year warranty on any problem, drainage is a yes, tilt and slides outside of the car. They DO use the glass from the company who supplies Honda their moonroof glass, so it's OEM.
