I have a 2002 Honda Civic coupe and was looking to jazz it up a bit by installing either the type-r or Mugen style front lip instead of an entire front body kit (most of which look ricey).
How do you install one of those front lips? Are they just bolt-on, clip-on, or do I need a pro to do it properly? Also, my car is black, so I could just buy a black one without it needing paint, correct? If they come pre-painted, does the paint chip and peel or is it good quality?

They usually either clip on or you us screws or something. It should have them on the sides where it goes on the wheel well and should be up and under the front of the bumper. Some come pre painted if your lucky enough to find someone that sells it like that. Most the time they are just primered.

if you get the lip from ebay plastic or urethane you have to get it painted cuz its not the same black and its going to look weird imo...also i would go wit mugen i think it looks way better lol
if you also decide to get side skirts i would go wit OEM i got ebay 1's and i did not like them at all, i got some aero sides coming in next week and they come painted!
oh and install is straightfoward...you put the lip on and then drill it in with self-tapping screws by the wheels

Well, as I was installing my projector headlights, which look amazing now that they are finally in, I noticed a rubber "lip" underneath the front bumper held on by two screws.
I'm assuming the clip-on/bolt-on lips would just mount there?

No you could do it your self easy as crap. You are just putting a lip on a bumper. Most lips just have to be attached from the sides of the bumper where the wheel well is. Some probably can be attached from the bottom.

Ah ok. It's just the pictures I see of these lips, it looks like just a lip. Nothing to connect it to the bumper with.

I wonder which one to order though... I live in Canada so I need to order froma Canadian site (to avoid duty and border fees).
I have a 2002 Honda Civic coupe and would prefer to get a carbon fiber one so I don't have to have it painted black to match my car.

Where is a good place to order one from (Canadian)? I've googled it but can't find what I'm looking for.

Yea, I'm slowly figuring that out. Seibon wants $400+ for one of theirs. Carbon Creations makes a Type-R lip, but it's $350.
I can't find any good deals in Canada anymore.
Could I just buy one that is primered black and then put a clear coat over it to make it glossy? I really don't want to pay the extra money of getting it professionally painted.

This one is cheap and from Ontario, looks like a reputable company too.

Only $70, $100 after shipping. Should I go for it?

Re: Type-R / Mugen Lip Install
The install is pretty easy, but you have to prep the lip before the paint job; that's the most important part..
If you do it right I don't it'll look ricey at all, paint the bumper lips the same color as your bumper and lower the ride height. Get some nice OG wheels and you're set! Everything under $300 hahaha
here's a coupe of lips you should consider.

Hey guys, I am in a very similar situation, looking into getting a Type-R lip but see a lot of variation of price online and wonder if that correlates directly to quality? Will I regret getting a $40 part?

Re: Type-R / Mugen Lip Install
I really don't think there is a difference.....they are all cheap replicas to begin with. Most of the time they don't fit properly, or break easily. Personally, I'd go with an OEM or other quality lip. It looks better, and holds its value over time.

don't get carbon fiber it looks cool and is nice in theory but your just going to end up damaging it eventually especially if your car is lowered its just to stiff thats why people prefer polyurethane its extremely pliable and much much cheaper. if you really insist on the carbon look get the Polyurethane lip and wrap it in 3M carbon fiber vinyl wrap.
edit **** me 2010 i should have known.
