Installing an after market tacho

hey I thinking about buying an after market tachometer.. but I was thinking and I had a look around this site for a DIY install but all I could find is installs for ones with previous tachometers... I drive a 6th gen and it doesn't come with a stock tachometer does anyone have a link to or know how to install one in a car that doesn't have one previously because I'm stumped on how I would go about installing one...and I cannot find instructions anywhere.. since I have never really worked with them before nor do I know anyone that has... Thanks for any help in advance

Tach Blue Coil
I assume that when you say blue coil you are refering to a wire that would go to a tacho in the cluster if it were there from stock.. I havent pulled my instrument cluster out yet but does it come with a blue coil wire even if it does not come with a tacho in the first place.. I'm confused sorry about this

Ricer Installing an eight inch tach, so I can see it from the moon!

No,
For the "Tach" the wire color is "Blue" and you can tap into it at the "Coil"

Re: Installing an after market tacho

man, you should just buy a 99-00 Si gauge cluster or an ex cluster. you can find them for cheap, they look better, and they're straight up plug and play!

Re: Installing an after market tacho

Damn I didn't think of that... I alerady bought the one pictured above a while ago... well... when you say you can find them for cheap how cheap do you mean? because that tacho only cost me $50 Australian and if I could sell it to someone over here for a little more than what I bought it, and depending on how much a full cluster is maybe I would be able to afford one of them like you said... ill take a look into that..

Re: Installing an after market tacho

Ill have to have a look around tomorrow for one like Alpha 5 posted... Its to late to ring around now... I just had a quick look around Ebay AU and the is none.. Actually no civic clusters on Ebay au so it looks like if I go for one of those with I think I will it looks alot better than screwing on in to the dash somewhere, im going to have to import one from overseas unless there is a place around me that has them... like I said ill ring around tomorrow...

Re: Installing an after market tacho

you could also get an LX cluster, they had tachs too. I don't know how cheap, maybe not as cheap as that tach you bought. :/

oh, and if you're concerned about the mileage on the cluster, there's a DIY on honda-tech.com on how to roll the mileage back/forward to match what's on your car.
