Carbonfibre hood

Hello... I would just like your opinion on something I found and if it would be worth buying??
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Slightly-dama...QQcmdZViewItem
I know it says slightly damaged but from what I have asked him it is only damaged where he has taken the picture and he said it could be repaired.. is this true... It dosn't give a brand name or anything else about it, do you think it would be worth buying or just a waste of money if it cannot be repaired or just a crappy hood overall

Re: Carbonfibre hood

Yes, It can be repaired. It looks like the clear was damaged and that can be reshot. I would ask him the brand. If it is not VIS or SEIBON then stay away. From the look of the weave it looks to be neither of the two. After you win the auction and pay a shop to reclear it you will have upwards of $600 in it so. I would not mess with it. Just order a new one with a warranty and be done.

Re: Carbonfibre hood

Yer he couldn't give me a brand name how much would a VIS or SEIBON one be costing me because from the ones Ive looked at before those brands don't ring a bell... you also spoke about the weave of it, is that the actual weave of the carbon cose i wouldn't think that would affect the strength of it that much.. but ill have a look around for those brands

Re: Carbonfibre hood

I was just using the weave to figure out what brand it was. The weave in the pic looks large and loose. The VIS and the SEIBON pieces use a smaller tighter weave.
Here are the links to the two that I spoke of.

VIS RACING

SEIBON

Re: Carbonfibre hood

operative word is it "could" be repaired. The problem with them fixing it is they're going to have to get that layer off, and they could damage the weave underneath. I doubt it's a VIS, it looks like a 2x2 weave. It COULD be an older Seibon, but I doubt that too. Just be careful man. Seibon or VIS are the way to go. Check here for applications for your car.

I think after all the work and problems, it'd be better for you to buy a brand new one. Good luck man.

Re: Carbonfibre hood

I know a little more about it now after giving him a call... its fom a place in Sydney Australia called Jetspeed which is quite well knowen over here for selling and producing loads of quality products it may not be as good as VIS or Seibon but its within my price range which is a major plus you gotta remember it in au dollars which only works out to like $500 US dollars max... Anyways im heading into a place called revolution racegear which deals with c/f and they will be able to give me some prices of new ones and how much it would be to fix that one but like you guys said I might just end up spending a bit more money and go for a brand new one and save all the hassels

How do you not run into Seibon or VIS when researching CF, they are the world leaders!! Lol every car in SS pretty much has a Seibon decal on their hood, ah to be 17 again.

Re: Carbonfibre hood

Thats what I was thinking as well... I normally have a look around ebay first just to see whats out there, than ill go out and see if there is anything better... But there is no VIS or Seibon hoods for any cars on eBay AU which I think is wierd cose you guys say they are such a global brand but im going out to some carbon fiber places today to see if they stock VIS or Seibon...

Re: Carbonfibre hood

From the looks of the pictures, you can get it back to normal. Although you would have to get it done, not by painting clear over it, but by sanding the gloss away and then buffing the corner out, back to glossy.
The only problem with that, is well, if you're going to do it yourself, worrying about burning through the casting resin. That would only really happen if you're using an electric buffer.
You might as well take it to a shop to get it done....
but then again after everything is said and done you might as well just use money to get a new one without a defect.
If he's not going to haggle with you on the price, I wouldn't bother.

Re: Carbonfibre hood

Its a knock off version of a VIS hood, invader extreme. The damage depends on how deep it is, its really hard to tell. Save yourself the headache and order a new one - it may come out cheaper even after you repair that damage.

Re: Carbonfibre hood

I was talking to my mate about buying a c/f hood today and he used to be driving a skyline around and his car got defected because of a carbon fiber hood... In other words you carn't have carbon fiber hoods in Australia... i gave the RTA a call and they say its because in accidents they splinter and act flying like knives..but I see people driving around with them all the time so what do you think I should do because this is the first I have heard of it

Re: Carbonfibre hood

Every CF hood states that it is for OFF ROAD PURPOSES ONLY. Even the VIS and the SEIBON.
What do you mean that his car got "defected"? Did they write him a ticket or what? Here in the states I have never heard of any cop giving anybody crap over their hood.
Now the stealership that is a diff story. My OEM unaltered completely stock headlight where fogging. So I took it to the stealership for warranty. They said it was because of my hood. So I went home put the stock hood back on went back and they fixed the stupid light. That has been my only complication, well that and everyone that does not have one wants to run their dirty *** hands across it.
