Home-made Engine Torque damper?
Ok, I was reading that thread: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...light=dampener, in the hope of seing a custom set-up, but in vain
Now that Ingalls has one for the D17 (for over 200$ btw
):

With instruction: http://www.ingallseng.com/Instructions/93026.pdf
Can someone custom-made some bracket to use with some 50$ ebay universal engine damper: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Unive...QQcmdZViewItem
What about Gearbox, Inc?
Should'nt be that much complicated for someone with the proper tools ...

I don't have one... I am looking for somone to custom-made some bracket for me (and other 7thgener!)...
From what I read, it don't make power, but you loss less of it, and the engine feel smoother... so for me it don't worth the price ingalls is asking... but a custom one at 50$+bracket can be

I read you now. i agree, 50 bux seems like a better price. that pic is interesting, i may go to work on this, but i am not guaranteeing any results.
does anyone know what piston/damper would be a good one to start fabricating with?

those would be easy to make. And that ingalls one looks cheap. Their bracket is cheezy as hell.
Maybe ill make one and see how it turns out. And i have something much better than those ebay universal ones. I use all aircraft grade parts.

If you guys dont mind paying 50 bucks everytime those dampers snap in half, go for it. Ive seen some of the NRG dampers snap in half. I can only imagine how a no name brand would do. But id like to see someone make a custom mount for the EX.

If it breaks, it mean that it is really doing something I guess so I'll invest in a better one nest time! but I doubt that I can break one with the torque of my engine
But maybe the angle of the installation does not help... the force is front/rear and on a D17 we are dampening it with a damper installed with a different angle (what? 20 degree )... that may be an explanation if it break... but I am not an engineer...

i would use ones made for aviation purposes. I have some lying around, because we have an experimental homebuilt airplane, and another mass produced one. We have tons of parts left over that we didnt use. So ill test stuff with those and see what happens.

I surfed a little bit yesterday to see if a damper made for another car or another civic year could fit...
Look at that:
Ingalls kit Civic 01-05 :

NRG kit for 92-00 CIVIC, 94-00 ACCORD, & TOYOTA MR2 SPYDER

The engine bracket looks the same!!! I think I will order that kit and see what I can do with it... I am just afraid that the damper could be too short or too long...
What do you think? any other user tried it in the past?
EDIT
Forget it...
I just relaized that the ingalls pics is not right... on the box it is a 93020 kit (civic 96-00) and not a 93026 like it was supposed to be...
may fit but

I already have a design down in my head for my civic. Just need to get the parts together. Im ordering the end links soon, so i should have something to show sometime in the near future.

im gonna try to order the required end-links this weekend. My supplier is located only about 50 miles from here, so i would have the parts by tuesday.
I am thinking that i can build some basic ones for about $75-$100, and some adjustable ones for $150-$175.
I am also building these to the specific needs for the car. Like if your car is semi-stock and makes 100 ft/lbs of torque, then i will use one specific stiffness shock. If you are making 200 ft/lbs, then i will use a different stiffness shock.
I have created an equation to calculate the amount of force that your engine will exert on the dampner. Using the center pivot points of the engine mounts, the amount of dampning from the stock mounts, the centrifical force of the rotating mass, the amount of torque the car makes, and many other factors. And i can get shocks that are tailored to my every need.
I am also going to try to mount it to the firewall. And the brackets will not be cheezy assed ones like in the pictures you guys posted above. I do not like having any part non-reinforced. So all of my brackets will at the least have gussets.
But, i guess i have rambled on enough. So i will simply post pictures when i have successfully created a prototype unit.

And what if i have a m/t DX with a EX head swap? should your prototype still work for this? I've been looking at the Ingalls but i don't think it will fit correctly.... so i'm also down for one once you get some finished.

why would it not work? with a head swap everything under the hood looks the same except a vtec sylinoid. and thats even on the opposite side the damper would be.

i would rather get one from turboengnr if hes able to make some. the ingalls people still dont know if theirs clears the abs unit. and it does look cheap for the price.

Yeah guys we are a WD for ingalls and have a promo on the D17 damper for $167 shipped. So honestly, it would be easier to buy these than to go through the hassle of building one.
BTW, scansel912 is going to do a DIY for us all.

167$ is a good price for the ingalls... shipping to canada also included?
But, it's still far away from the 50$ for a NRG damper http://www.getnrg.com/nrgdamper.php (not available for the d17
)... that's why were looking for a cheaper option...
While doing the DIY, could you take clear pictures of the brackets included in the kit? I want to check if a damper kit from another engine (or car) can be customised to fit the D17...
For those who have one, how is the vibration in the car afterward? On the RSX, they recommand to put some dynamat under the bracket of the strut tower to reduce some of it... how about the D17???
