Beginner's toolset

I just got a 02 EX as my first car, and was wondering what are some tools I should have (for general maintenance, oil changes, and maybe the DIY black headlights)?

if your not planning on doing much work to the car jsut go get yourself a nice 88 pierce tool set. or something. dosen'tt have to be a very good brand you can pick them up for like $50. it will have pretty much everything you need. and easy to keep track of.

I would have to say that the type of tools you need in your set would be....

- Torgue Wrench
- Metric Socket set w/ extenders
- Wire strippers
- Pry bar
- Screw drivers

I dont think a torque wrench is needed for a beginer. Plus a good one is pretty expensive.

If he is gonna start DIY'ing stuff it would be a good investment. There are a few things that require a torque wrench. You don't need a top of the line one, but $50 should get you one that would be enough to get you close.

Buy craftsman... you only need to buy them once (lifetime warranty)
There's no lifetime on the clicky torque wrenches, but I've found the Pittsburgh brand ones from www.harborfreighttools.com to be more than effective for $20. I wouldn't do motor work with it, but its perfect for the basics.

Harbor Freight Tools is awsome! I bought an electric impact gun from them. That thing is better than any of my air impacts.

Nah. I wouldn't waste your money. This website provides everyhing that you need to know. Just search for it. If you think of it, we have most likely done it.

Check out this section for DIY's
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/fo...lay.php?f=109&

BTW, I also had never done any hands-on service with cars until I bought my 7thgen. I have done everything on my car, myself.

tools

screwdriver, torque wrench, and powerful magnets (they don't leave lines like duct tape)

definately at least jackstands and an entry level hydraulic jack set. you can 2 1/4 ton jack with 2 stands for $39.99. it's
Sears item #00950138000

i got a set of ramps thinking it would be cool for oil changes, but even at stock height w/ no front lip kit the car wouldn't make the slope... the front bumper would hit the slope before the wheels made it up.

so i ended up getting a racing jack w/ a couple of hefty jackstands.

listen, snapon is good but prices are rediculous, you only need to get snapon if you earn a living with these tools otherwise craftsman is perfect. also mac is real good and matco is alright...

actually i got a ton of extra tools just sitting in my carry along tool box because i bought a set for my work and a set for school and got lots of the same things lol stupid me. pm me sometime and ill see about a price if your interested (its craftsman stuff mostly)

p.s. these arent just my opinions its what ive also heard from dozens of people with decades upon decades in the industry and its also my personal experience plus craftsman you just drive to sears and finish the job that night if a tool brakes.......snap-on NOPE.
