i think that's a good question. i'd still rather have an HSK turbo spooling than having to buy a whole other car

I wish I could see some HKS numbers. I mean, what do they mean by not enough for the strip? I know little about turbo but i do know i want one if the hp rating is worth it.

It is probably only a stage one turbo meaning 7psi max. So that will give us 50 extra hp to the wheels hopefully. The only way I can see them doing stage 2 and beyond is if you did major engine work or dropped a totally new engine which would become costly. So stage one turbo should be decent for daily driving. But turbos in general destroy the engine and are high maintenance type of gadgets. My friend has a 93 rx7 tt and it's the s#!t but he has to buy turbo timer and boost controller, and extra guages to make sure he doesn't self detonate his beast. I would go with a turbo maybe on an old ls integra before I'd try a sohc civic. Just my opinion or maybe a machine meant to have turbos like the mr2, supra, or fd3. Later Skyline is a beast =)

What would we have to do to our engines in order for the stage one to work??? I know we wouldn't have to mod as much as having stage 2 or 3, right?

in getting a turbo in ur car u have to upgrade everything
so if u just plan to throw a turbo and not do any of the upgrades, forget it ur just wasting ur money!!!
doesnt a turbo run just as well on a sohc than a dohc
and if u put it in a old teg, wat a waste lolz
too much drain on engine cuz the teg will prolly have too much clicks on it.
so that means ur back in sq. 1 when u started!!!
stop making worthless choices
get the HKS turbo when it comes out and upgrade everything
how much BOOOST do u want?? 300HP more to ur stock HP???
all u really need is 50-80 more HP for city driving!!

Finally, maybe now it will be out sometime sooner now that they replied. My only problem is no intercooler.... then again not exactly any room for an IC. Now if only crower or someone would come out with pistons, rods, camshafts, etc for our car so that we could run higher boost with the turbo....

Oh, and Lex, you asked what will be faster, the 2002 Si (Type R) or a turbo 2k1 ex? Well, with the turbo on the soch ex you could still eventually do upgrades so taht you could run higher boost and yes, that would be faster than the 2002 type r. However, dunno how much power the HKS turbo will add to our cars, but I'm guessing that with the tubo we would still have a lil' more whp than the Type R

It concerns me a bit that HKS says the turbo kit will not be powerful enough for drag use. What - do they expect us to be cruising around in traffic all day revving at > 3500 RPM? Keep in mind the turbo lag - most powerful turbos will not reach peak boost until about 3000-3500 RPM. It's not like a supercharger where you get hp gains throughout the powerband. Kind of defeats the purpose of a turbo if it won't give you enough juice to compete at the strip.

I'm just hoping that other companies like GReddy will take notice of this and try to develop turbo kits for the 1.7 SOHC. Not that GReddy's turbos are any good (they suck), but my hope is that if a few big companies start coming out with 2k1 Civic turbos, other companies like Drag or RevHard will develop kits as well. HKS makes decent turbos, but you're paying an extra premium for the HKS name. Right now, Drag and RevHard make the best kits for the SOHC and DOHC Honda engines.

ok, i know how a turbo works and i know it can add a decent amount of power if it's built right and working with other mods, but what major mods would be needed to get maximum boost out of a turbo? makes me wonder if it would be cheaper to just sell my car and buy a 2k2 si. oh well. all i've got on my car so far is the AEM SRI
