Hypothetical Mods & SMOG

Ok, suppose JR does release a supercharger for the D17A2 engine. And suppose I got one and then added an upgraded fuel pump, an AEM FPR, an AEM CAI (if they make one that will mate up with the supercharger), DC Sports Header, and a Thermal R&D Cat Back exhaust. Do you think it would still pass SMOG? JR claims a 40% increase in power. That would take the EX from 127 to 177.8 HP.

This would lower the Weight/HP ratio from 20.102362204724409448818897637795 to 14.358830146231721034870641169854

Think about it

Thanks

Matt

Anytime you make changes to the fuel curve such as a FPR, injector, or bigger fuel pump, you will not be smog legal. In order for a particular part to be considered C.A.R.B approved, they must be able to pass smog with the stock fuel system.

This is why companies that produced turbos or superchargers are finding it difficult to produce a smog legal system. Our stock fuel system is so efficient that they are finding it almost impossible to increase the fuel delivery to meet the required amount for forced induction. The only alternative is to create a non smog legal system to include high flow injectors, FPR, and a bigger fuel pump. In doing so, the kit will be quite expensive and cost between 4,000 to 5,000 bucks.

I can see why manufacturers would not consider building a kit because how many people would actually invest that amount of money? Very few if you ask me.
