HP K26 Header Review

K26 Long tube primary 4-1 with short cat eliminator and o2 sim box.

Decent package for the price, the collector is complete and utter **** though. Basically the primary tubes end and HP wrapped some sheet steel around them and funneled it into the collector flange. While from a performance point of view this design is uber crappy, it does maintain stock ground clearance as with the OEM downpipe.

My biggest complaint about this combo however is the use of a donut flange to connect the "collector" and the cat eliminator pipe. Simply put, it leaks. Bad. I'm planning on hacking it off and welding on a flexpipe its so bad. Basically this will make it so I have to mutilate the pipe to ever remove this piece of equipment, but it's just so poor a design choice I can't help it.

From what I can tell over my horrible exhaust leak, the header/cat combo does deepen the exhaust tone dramatically and make for a lumpier exhaust note since the exhaust pulses aren't canceling out as soon as with the OEM setup.

On the plus side, the good 'ole butt dyno likes how the daily feels over 3 grand now, and I can now get to work without downshifting (as much) on the highway to pass someone. Whether this is due to the longer primaries or the elimination of the cat is unknown, but it is an improvement.

Cliff notes: Great idea, shitty execution, "percieved" gains in performance.

I recently put in the same header. I agree with all of your statements. If you want to get rid of the leak you can make your own spring bolt like this.

Use a shorter bolt then wahts in the pic. The one in the pic was for the random tech cat. You should get the idea.
You can increase the spring tension by adding more washers. This cleared up my leak problems.
Too bad that this is the only long header available.
AH well.. I am happy with it.

they look like valve springs, but they both are exhaust springs.

I was joking. ;P

btw, most aftermarket valve springs come with one side colored so you know which side goes up and which side goes down ... as noted http://www.inlinefour.com/todk20aupval.html

poop, new bolts/washers didn't fix the leak. Looks like flexpipe and quality time with the MIG this weekend .
