OEM fog lights = garbage
Yeah well I bought these to see better at night in bad weather. Well it turns out that I can't see any light from them when sitting upright in the driver seat, nor can I see any side light (mirrors block it). So basically the fogs are useless. I have to lean over with my face over the dash to even see that they're on. And I don't even like how they look at night with my hid. I ordered and installed ion yellow H11 bulbs, but they look just like stock color! Maybe an almost imperceptible amount of yellow tint. So I took those out and put the stocks back in so I don't get stupid reflections from the ion bulbs. Well that's it. All that money for nothing. I prolly will never even turn em on again. I was thinking about sending em to Impulse, but I don't like the yellow reflection in the lens during the daytime.

That still doesn't fix the beam pattern that sits below field of vision. And it will look yellow during the day reflecting.
maybe they are not aimed properly? but jeez you have HID. No way you can see the halogen fog lights with HID's being so bright.
I ordered oem fog replica's but don't have HID so I hope they help for me.

okay, well the fogs do shine over the hid, but it's such a small area in front that all I can see from the seat is the hid light in front. Does anyone have pics of their beam pattern, because I paid honda and they said everything was aimed. Also, I have glare shields around each bulb, which seems to be limiting their forward projection. Others said their older oem fogs didn't have these.

Honda said they aimed them, but if I have only the fogs on, I wouldn't be able to see anything at all. Just black road. How bad is the yellow reflection after your mod, cause the stock color really sucks.

i thought i read somewhere the minimum height for fogs was 14 inches above the ground, measuring where the center of the oem fog light would be was like 10 inches. maybe that has something to do with it.
but i know what you mean, when i was driving next to another 7thgen with oem fogs, it didnt look any brighter than mine, thats what made me decide against them.

i live kinda out in the country in tx and with my fogs i can see the light shining right below the low beams (i have silvania silverstar bulbs in headlights) and it kinda casts out to the side and i can see the sides in ditches really well and it has saved my *** with a few deer.
yeah my dad had fog lights on his protege 5 but you couldnt really tell the difference between them on or off from the driver seat
i heard someone say that they are for other people to see you on really hard to see conditions not to see other people
they might not do what you wanted them to do but hey in my opinion the look really nice and worth the money

They shine the *sides* of the road more than the headlights and that's the best thing they do IMO. I'm scared shitless of shrubs and bushes on the sides of the roads now because i'm afraid some dumbass deer will jump out of them and tbone my car again.
and another good reason to have fog lights is so that other people can see you during the day. Its sounds weird having lights on during the day, but light will catch another a person's eye faster than the paint of your car (basically the purpose of daytime running lights). It's better than having your normal beams on during the day...

The main purpose of foglights is to project light too the side of the vehicle and too add some foreground lighting... Yes, the fogs do also help light up road signs.
Wait till it gets dark out, and pull your car up to a white wall, then back up about 10 ft. If its completley dark out, you will notice the wall has a huge "circle" on it/glare (ill take pics tonight), That shows the fogs are honestly helping a lot at night.
I remember you said your fogs came with a shield on them... Maybe that could be causing some issues?
The fogs I have do have a yellow reflection/tint to them but, its not that noticable.

Well the main purpose of them is to... see in the fog, you having HID is basically useless to have to fog lights except for a cosmetic purpose or to see with your peripherial (spelling) vision on the side of the car. Sounds like they might be sitting too deep in the bumper though.

actually, the foglights are doing what they're supposed to, they're dispersing light very low to the ground and in a wide angle (sides). if you wanted to get some lights where you can see it pointed ahead of your car when turned on, then you should have gotten driving lights or spot lights (they are still in the same housing as foglights, but the beam pattern of the lights aim differently).
