Let's get unserious for a topic
I'm just starting to break into modifications for my car, never really had a 4-digit before the decimal bank account figure to work with. Well, I'm finally going to put some headers, hi flo cat and cat-back exhaust on my car (only have CAI for now). But on the brink of doing this I'm already thinking about the future, a future with a turbo and a auto-->manual tranny swap. But I have to face reality, I'm a busy college student that studies and works during his free time without much money in the end, so really I'm only dreaming about those things. I have no exciting posts about what I will do to my car... so for those of you out at sea, and look upon my feet just to realize you're on the same boat as me, here's your outlet.
What I'm writing below is an example of what I'm prescribing, have some fun, be creative, and keep it not-real.
"Man I finally got the Turbonator, http://www.turbonator.com/index.html, yesterday in the mail, just took 15 minutes to install it and took it out for a test drive. It really feels like I'm getting a boost close to 40hp!! I took it out to the track and ran a 15.09 @99mph without nitrous, and 3 more runs in the mid 15's!! This Turbonator is really awesome. Of course I was out of gas by the end of the day so I filled up my tank, then decided to drive around the rest of the day showing off the performance. Well today I went to fill up at the gas station and discovered I only needed 6 gallons to fill the tank after driving 240 miles, that's 40 mpg and I drive an automatic. So what I'm thinking about doing is buying like 3 more Turbonators and shoving them up my intake pipe's a*hole and it will have a compound effect. I'll get like 140hp gain, it's gonna be awesome."
See, so easy, mine probably sucks, but I want to see some better ones

hey mjmacky, i'm in the same boat as you. I'm a poor college student and i do a few mods once all the school bills are taken care. Anyways to save you some money, dont your waste your money a crap like that. If you do a search on the forums for "tornado" you'll know those pieces of cut metal are pieces of crap. The turbonators are really similar to a another product called tornado. Think logically, why would suffocating your engine, increase its hp and mileage. Its like me choking you and expecting you to be able to run faster then if i didnt choke you.
My suggestion is use that money and do exterior mods or suspension mods. You'll notice those mods way more then then pieces of metal choking your engine.
here are some suggestion that are low cost mods for your car:
Rsx Sway bar
tint
black out headlights
sri or cai
THe mods i suggested you can either do your self or buy them used for under $100-200.
most people on this site will tell you, you wont notice any real power gains unless you go turbo or swap. Thats why i'm mainly going for looks and suspension.
Umm, I was making fun of the Turbonator... I wasn't serious, it was a creative outlet due to the pricy frustration of more expensive mods. Kind of like, if only mods were so affordable and actually worked. I didn't want to lose anyone, just wanted some of you to dig into your creative outlet for some interesting other dimension stories.
Hate to tell you, but our cars dont respond well to engine mods at all. You wont get much performance out of anything short of forced induction or an engine swap. Cold air intake, headers, and exhaust are gonna be about as useful as the "Turbonator" and cost a whole lot more money for about 5hp at best. Some mods have even been proven to LOSE power. Save for turbo and/or engine swap or invest in another car.
