Rep Power: 323 !) i hope your not blaming your ticket on your detector
2) your detector might have went off you just didnt hear it
3) ive been pulled over before and the cop matched my speed he could have done that to you

I recommend the Bel 985 or 995 detectors. They are as good or better than Valentine 1 and Escorts. I have a 985 (for more than a year) and have not been ticketed yet.

Rep Power: 279 Ok you are referring to the K40. The K20 is an engine. The K40 is a $1500.00 POS doesnt work any better than a $300.00 one. Check your ticket and the method of detection should be written directly on the ticket. Perhaps they used laser and your detector will not detect that. Might say something like LIDAR or LTI 20/20 at so many feet, or it might say RADAR or PACE. Your best bet now is to goto court and try and fight it. 9/10 it will get reduced. So a 4 point ticket might become 2 or a 2 point ticket may get reduced to a no point ticket. As for what detector I reccomend. I have the 8500 and its amazing, good range, detects anything and is programable to adapt to new technology. Lets face it though if a cop really wants to nail you he will. All he has to do keep his radar off and flip it on as you drive by, giving you almost no warning at all, or use laser which will basically get you everytime.

Rep Power: 0 I have the k40 in my car, but i have been pulled over once in the year i have had it " which i think the cop was full of **** " but it has detected the rest of the cops and givin me plenty of time to slow down. They have the deal where they pay for ur ticket but its kinda a pain to fill out the paper work. But i have been very happy with mine and do notice a big diff between mine and the cheaper ones.

Rep Power: 0 I have the BEL Vector 985, it is reliable. Sometimes it goes off when the cop is more than mile down the road, plenty of reaction time. It is true that they can just sit there with it off and as soon as you get close they hit the trigger, forget about it, your done anyways.

Rep Power: 788 Most cops don't leave the radar or laser on all the time anymore. They just shoot it at you for a second, your detector beeps, and he's got you clocked.

Rep Power: 504 I thought detectors really worked by letting you know when they're scanning cars in front of you before they get to you so you have time to slow down.
1. What is up with a $1500 detector?
2. Is there really one that's better than the V1? I thought V1 completely owned everything else.

2. Not anymore. While the V1 is a great detector, the Bel 995 and latest Escorts are just as good for less money.

Rep Power: 0 laser jammers are illegal in most states anyways. but radar detectors are still legal. unless other detectors come with the arrow thing, i still think the v1 is the best.

Rep Power: 0 I also love how my friends' radar detector picks up automatically opening doors from grocery stores, or when you drive by a bank and it goes nuts. Top of the line Cobra too. More headache than anything

And a good radar detector (Bel, V1, and Escort) IS very good at giving a warning. Police often set up radar traps at the bottom of sloping hills so that even if you coast, you exceed the speed limit and get nabbed.

Rep Power: 0 I paid $50 dollars for my Kobra at Target. It's saved me at least $500 in tickets thus far. It detects laser, VG-2, and any other miscellaneous signals like cell towers and garage door openers. Considering I live in an area with exceptionally windy roads, this is not bad, and definately worth the price.

Rep Power: 0 I have borrowed the Escort Passport 8500 radar detector and been in my friends car that I borrowed it from. It is not some stupid flunky electronic gag device, and I would easily recommend it. I have been saved twice while using it and have not gotten a ticket once while using it.
**The Escort Passport 8500 radar detector does show if the radar is either:
x-band
k-band
ka-band
For California the police use KA-band while some other states use the other two. Usually when close to shopping centers the detector will show x or k band.
A nice feature about the detector is that makes different noises for each band detected so which you will get used to. Also there is a silence button that mutes the current find yet will go back to loud when it detects a new radar signal.
