Tint Questions

I see some very fine aftermarket tints, and then I see some really crappy bubbling, peeling, purple ones. What factors into the tint-job?

1) Pro vs amateur: Does taking it to the pro's pretty much guarantee that the tint-job won't turn purple after time, especially with the lifetime warranty? What about DIY jobs?

2) Tint brand: I'm sure there are different tints out there. Will pretty much any pro-used tint be high quality? Which brands should I ask for?

3) Time: Will all aftermarket film tints eventually fade? Is the purpling inevitable?

A couple of other questions: Do I have to be careful about how I wash the inside of my car windows once they're tinted? Will certain cleaning solutions discolor or damage the tint? How about what the car washes use?

Also, do inspections check the tint level to make sure it is a legal percent? I'm in Pennsylvania, FYI.

1.) I don’t know how well a DIY will turn out. I took my car to a guy that specializes in window tinting and window repair. I have life time warranty on my tint so if it warps, bubbles or discolors he will fix it for free.

2.) As for brands I don’t know I just chose how dark I wanted it and he did it.

As for cleaning the guy told me to use mild soap and water to clean the tint.

Sry if I wasn’t much help. I just recommend that you take it to some where that will give you a good warranty and that looks like they do a good job.

for cleaning, get special glass cleaners that say 'safe for tint use'. some cleaners like windex have ammonia in them which fades the film and turns the color purple.

2) True, there are alot of different brands out there. Just because a pro uses a particular brand, does not mean it is of high quality. My g/f's 03 EX has Johnson brand tint on it, and so far, it is fine. Lifetime warranty. Any Johnson dealer can honor the lifetime warranty also.

3) I think most tints will fade somewhat over time. As for turning purple, that applies to DYE based tint. Metallic based tints should not turn purple.

Get solar film, it's lifetime warented. I helped out with a great window tinter and thats all he would use. I would also recommend taking the car somewhere to get it done. If you don't you'll have horrible lines around the tops and bottoms of the window where you didn't get it close enough. Also the tint shop I helped at used johnson's baby shampoo and water to spray the windows and tint with before applying. It is definitly an art, and if you don't have much expierence you're gonna waste alot of film trying to figure it out.

1. Have it professionally done. DIY if your confident on doing it. If DIY make sure you are on a clean environment coz you wouldn't want any dirt in between your tint.
2.As for brands there are plenty but I went with Huper Optik.
3. Ive had my tint since Jan 01. no purpling yet. I forgot but I think Huper is ceramic based...
