I have the bel 945 and I have a friend with the bel 985.. they are both awesome models.. check on ebay.. kinda expensive, not bad, but we both enjoy them.
I just bought my Escort Passport 8500 X50 at Best Buy. Its a great unit and I got a 18 month same as cash thing, so kinda nice and good deal. Dont have to pay it all in full! I paid $264.00 brand new for mine at Best Buy. Thing works great, I drove to Vegas this past weekend with it and the road was loaded with cops. It picked up signal of all the cops a good 1.5miles or more, so it definately did its job for me. I love the thing and definately recommend it.

The 8500 X50 has saved my butt lots of times (several laser and pop radar). One time it picked up a motorcycle cop's laser from the other side of a hill. I've never used the Valentine One, but I'm sure some zealot Valentine owner will hop on this thread and berate everyone who has even thought of using another brand. And then there will probably be those guys that have illegal radar jammers that will push themselves in here are tell everyone that has a radar detector how stupid they were for buying a legal detector when they could have spent the extra cash to get a jammer. And let's not forget the members with law enforcement jobs that will tell you that buying anything like a detector or a jammer is a waste of money because their technology is always one step ahead of the detector/jammer market. IMO, it comes down to your driving preferences, what kind of technology the police are using where you drive, and how much money are you willing to spend. Read for yourself the pros and cons of the top three detectors before you buy:

.... and then again, maybe you'd be better off just driving the posted speed limit everywhere ....

Valentine 1 and the Passport both rate very high. Another suggestion that alot of people will probably give you is:
Don't speed.
But its so hard not to right? :-)

what u pay is what u get, I have POS cobra detector and it save me a few times but its not as good as the ones u guys talk about
OK heres how it is. The valentine V1 is very comporable to the 8500. I've heard that the V1 is a little quicker, but its real advantage is rear detection. The 8500 has very poor rear detection which isnt that big a deal since most attacks come from the front. I have the 8500 and must say I am very impressed with its range. My dad had one first and I kinda got a good impression of how good it really was, that helped me choose the 8500 over the V1. My uncle has the K40 and from what I have heard it sux @$$. He paid like over 1000 for it I think and it doesnt perform any better than my 8500. I'm not sure what the price dif is between the 8500 and the V1 I'd say if its more then 50.00 go for the 8500. If its close pick the V1 I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Cop: Do you know how fast you were going?
Me: 75 80.
Cop: HAHA.. Your funny kid how about 92.
Me: I look at him in complete shock cause I just don't know what to say.
Cop: Does your radar Detector not work?
Me: No sir ( BUT IT DOES )
Cop: I'll be right back
Cop: Alright I wrote you 2 tickets. 92 in a 65 and Reckless driving ticket for doing over 80.

I have a passport 8500 aswell, I started off w/ a cheap $40 Whistler for my first, then moved up to a Bell Express something... 940? i dunno it was $80ish.. its true you get what you pay for... even the $40 Whistler is better than nothing tho..
my buddy has the new valentine 1.8 and its wonderful. the cost is 425.00 shipped. the passport has great reviews as well, and cost around 300.00. if you got the extra change i would go with the valentine one. im going to buy the valentine myself in about three weeks ill let you know how it is.

The V1 or pasport 8500 are about the same. The v1 I think as a arrow that tells where the signal is coming from. I have the passport and I'm always looking to see where the cop is. The passport works great on canyon runs here in so cal(Angeles Forest/Crest HWy.
for those of you that have various window tint percentages on your vics and use the passport 8500 x50 or the new valentine detectors....how do they perform?
i read that window tint does degrade the detectors ability in how fast they pick up a radar hit. what has your experience been with these parameters listed above?
