cheap short shift adapter

Bought a short shift adapter off ebay. Adapter cost me $8.50 and I got raped on the shipping ($15.00). Still, only cost me $23.50.

Not a perfect fit. It's binding on the weld of the oem cable mount. That's an easy fix though, I'll hit it with the dremel in the morning. I was able to hold it all together and shift between 3 and 4 while holding a measuring tape. Original shift distance was 5" and with adapter it looks like it's gonna be 3". I think that's a 40% reduction. Any thoughts about cutting an inch or two from the shifter itself (between **** threads and bend in shifter shaft)?

Got it installed. Works good. Only bad thing about it is that there are no set scews or other means of fastening it to the shifter besides the cable linkage pin. But it's a pretty good fit regardless. I also cut an 1.5" out of the top part of the shifter and had my friend weld it back together. Now the **** sits nice n low and shifts are firm.

Not that much work. Less than 2 hours. I even shortened the boot. It was worth it!

Sounds like you like everything. I ordered one just a few minutes before I saw this thread. What do you think of the quality of this one:

I hope it fits well. Sounds like I spent a dolllar or 2 more than you, 19.95 + 5.50 shipping. But atleast this one has a set screw, infact i think its identical to the arospeed one just with a logo stamped on.

oh what the. thats the Neuspeed style one. just a generic version of it. its suppose to have another hole so you can drill the stock bracket, and use a bolt to secure the adapter to the shifter. and yeah the neuspeed one is a perfect fit.

the neuspeed one is probably the better of the adapters. its more expensive which makes it not worth it.. but the OBX replica is a better knock off, since its version is just like Neuspeed's, and it includes the drill bit just like neuspeed too.

the other one posted is the DC style one.. the DC style one is held on via a hex screw.. which these type of adapters have problem where the hex screw falls off from vibration (hence neuspeed's requires drilling). but its definitely an easier install.. again, no point buying the brand name DC one when the generic ones are similiar and cost 50%+ cheaper.

if anyone's interested I got the DC style one for sale.. its semi-new (took it out to take pics for article).

for the price of these things though, u cant complain much. (I mean back then, I bought the Neuspeed for like $90 bucks?)

the Comptech SS is coming out soon, its also an adapter but its two piece adapter, supposely shortens the left to right shifting too.. its meant for the RSX but should fit our shifter assembly. I'll post about it if I remember later on. heh.

Before I get mine & put it in, do you think that putting something like loctite on the threads of the hex screw would help keep it in place?

yeah that'll definitely help.

although er.. are locktite perm? I forgot after you apply it.. if it can be removed easily.

you can just apply a good strong tape over the screw so it wont be moving out via vibration.. its a solution u might need to apply again and again overtime but it should make it a bit more secure.

remember while you're installing the shifter, to apply lube thru out all moving parts, will definitely make shifting smoother.

Looks like it will work, but you may have to dremel it a little. The problem for me was the weld of the cable mount being in the way. It's easier to grind the adapter ( cause it aluminum). Good luck.
