JDM Type R Shift Boot

I wanted to know if a JDM Type R shift boot for a Civic 96-00 will fit in a 01 Ex. If so, should I try to put the OEM silver ring at the top back on on leave it off. Heres a pick of the boot.

don't know if it'll fit, but it already has a ring at the top..i would keep that one...
