Help with Exhaust

Help with Exhaust
I want a stainless steel cat back exhaust. My downpipe is 2.5" and will not match up with the rest of the exhaust. Should I just buy a catback and take it to a shop and see if they will cut off the end of the pipe and weld on a new piece to make it 2.5" to match up to the 2.5" down pipe. Or what should I do?
