can anyone tell me what wings actually do for our cars other than increase drag? i know that it puts downforce down but since we've got fwd cars, what's the need for putting downforce on the back wheels? plus it seems like it'd take weight off the front where it's needed by acting as a lever with the back wheels as point which the car can rotate on. anyways gimme some feedback here
thanx

Yea for rwd cars, and at 130+ mph..
*you are clear for take off*
In our car, wings serve no purpose other than looks.. You are right though.. it is getting ridiculous..
Okay, but what if i have IHE, hi flo cat, flashed ecu, shift ****, acura tl floor mats and no headrests for weight reduction. What would my exact HP and TQ be, also what would my reaction time, 60 foot, and quarter mile times be?
Would that be enough to make the use of a spoiler?
oh... i also have blue l.e.d. valve stem lights, and a light up exhaust tip

hehe well shambler, lets say u started our with around 100... 101 hp... with all that stuff, you're probably pushin a whole... oh... i dunno.. 105 hp, bolt ons just dont add enough power to be worth it to me, i'm just looking for things to add to the car to increase the fuel economy, but i really think that i'm one of the few people here doin that
n e who, that's my 2 cents

Whats funny is people will try to Justify their wing by saying it helps them when driving fast.... Thing is, if its producing any signifigent downforce (To actually be use full) then why are you attaching it to your Deck lid (trunk) wich is one of the Thinest, weakest pieces of sheet metal on the car.... Ever looked at a GT car? ever notice that the wings are attached directly to the frame/Cage, Through the deck lid? ever wonder Why???
Yeah, a spoiler will not do enough to spoil the air until you reach speed of AT LEAST 100 mph, and are not significantly important until you're starting to push towards 150.
The thing that I think is interesting is the cars (Porsche's, the new Chrysler Crossfire) that have automatically-extending wings...... that extend at 60 mph!!! How ridiculous...

btw, where do you guys come up with these "it only works at over 100mph" or "it only works at over 60mph" statements? Did you do the research yourself? Are you assuming every car has exactly the same amount of naturally occurring downforce?
What about 100mph with a 20mph tailwind? Then you're technically only going 80mph as far as drag is concerned, aren't you?
I'm just curious where you guys got these numbers. Did you read physics journals or is it something that Bob at Autozone told you?

^ LOL for me, spoilers have no use coz I only have civic LX with 18" wheels and extra weights from my body kit and it is slow! I would get a spoiler for style though...
so the deal with wings when it comes to civic... just for show...

N/A Civics are capible of speeds that require much downforce.
I think spoilers/wings on civs are pointless and I don't have money to spend
on something that isn't gonna help my dinky civs performance.

After 60mph it's a trade off between drag and necessary downforce, and as the speed goes higher the drag aspect of the wing fades away and the downforce ebcomes more and more necessary.

If you have an EX, then it's RWD
But my Civic does not belong to any of the above. Mine is SH-AWD
