RS Grill ?
RS Grill ?
I want to get a new grill and i noticed people have gotten a grill that has rs in red letters on it. What does the rs stand for? Is there a Civic rs? I'm clueless to its meaning... so i might get a plain grill instead.
I haven't found out exactly what it means ona CIVIC... but i do know that some countries in Asia produce their sedans with the RS grill straight from the factory. It's just another type or model or package or something, like some other companies make RS versions, or like how Mitsubishi have OZ type. Mitsubishi makes RS Eclipse, Subaru has RS Impreza, and those are COUPEs. but I don't even know if Honda advertises official "RS" type Civics...
in any case, the red letters on the grill is just a sticker. however, RS is also molded onto the grill, so without the red sticker "RS" will still be there. Some owners just left the sticker off or shavedtheir trunk emblems and put the EX/LX/DX emblem over that RS mold
and...
the grills don't come in any special packaging that gives a history or describes what RS stands for... most get theirs in a plain brown cardboard box. our guess is as good as yours

yeah that was my first guess too... but has anyone ever heard or read that Honda produced a Civic RS? For sure there are 7thgen Civic Si, EX, LX, HX, DX, FP, VP (2004 DX), Civic Si Veloz in Canada (a US Civic EX), Civic Ferio in Asia.

^^Haha. It does! You could always take the rs off and put an ex instead or whatever your car is. That's what Leah did, but painted it red to match the car.

You might need to sand down the spot after removing the rs symbol so it's not as noticable. Then glue the new emblem over it. I don't know exactly without seeing one. All I saw was the finished product and it looked real good.
RS = Rally Sport
It's a rally edition of Civic Ferio sedan in Japan. I'm not sure what the difference is between the RS and the Ferio though. Some people said it's AWD but I doubt it. If you have a sedan then the following mods could make your ride a JDM RS look.
RS front&rear lip and side skirts (app. $300 for replicas)
RS grill with silver RS emblem (app. $10 on EBay, the red ones are replicas)
Another RS emblem in silver for the rear bumper
JDM amber side markers ($40?)
JDM taillights (A lot...$410 from Hondawerx but you might find better deal on EBay)
Folding side mirrors ($120 from HK or Taiwan, or $200+ if you want power folding)
Cleared headlights (Check DIY section. It's not really necessary to get the JDM ones)

"1998年9月のマイナーチェンジ時に新たに追加されたグレード、それがVi-RSです。
シビックに詳しい方ならご存じでしょうが、初代シビックのスポーツグレード「RS」が、このフェリオに受け 継がれ復活しました。
この「RS」はRoad Sailingの略で、「航海するヨットのように心地よい走り」という意味だそうです。
仕様は一言でいうと、グレードViに上位グレードSiの足回りをつけたという感じです。"
The Civic RS is the highest grade of the civic sedan in Japan. I'll find more information about the RS tonight.
Here is some more info I've found.
"Although originally it meant "Racing Sport", we could not say that at the time."
It seems like there is a possibility that the RS means Racing Sport instead of Road Sailing? Most people call the RS Road Sailing today though I think...
In '60s Japan was in a boom growth period, and the S800 was in production until 1970. But that was the era which symbolized the phrase "From violent to beautiful", and a backlash occurred because of this advanced growth. Pollution became a phenomenon of general concern. We could not drive a sportscar innocently. At that time, HONDA-SPORTS faded from view.
HONDA continued to develop as general automobile maker and learned by experience from the error of a sedan having an engine cooled by air, and released the new concept car "CIVIC". Everyone could drive this car energetically, but additional model named "RS" lacked impact for us. Many people thought RS meant "Road Sailing". Although originally it meant "Racing Sport", we could not say that at the time. The label "sports" revived by the CR-X as a derivative of the CIVIC. But it was named "ballad sports". I think that Honest craftsmen in HONDA realized the importance of a HONDA-SPORTS revival and so NSX debuted. in 1990.

Yeah guys, the Japs stole from the americans w/ RS....originally on chevies, there were RS's and SS's(rally sport and super sport, respectively). ss was the baddest of the bad, and chevy's revitalizing this w/ their new lineups (SSR, impala ss, even the replacement for the cavelier, the cobolt will have a ss model, supercharged w/ 210ish hp...) RS was always the mid level trim for chevy's.....it's real funny to see those 80 something caveliers with a big honking RS badge on the back...knowing full well there's no way anyone would ever consider rallying a cavi, let alone that one...but no matter who came up w/ RS first, those grills do look neat. ebay it for around 23 bucks
