Clutches life?

Gotta question about how long does a clutch's life normally last? I've had mine since Feb 2001 and haven't had any problems with my 42K miles. Although now, it's kinda hesitant and it sqeaks and I can feel it virbrating my foot when I release it. Also, what is the price range on one of them bad boys? By the way, does it have to be replaced or can it be tightened to fix it for a short term? Need help and I appreciate what you can give me.

I've seen clutches last on cars for well over 10 years and 200,000 miles, just depends on how you drive it. I'm at 65k ish and mines a 2001 and it's almost clutch time.

that's mainly due to a drunken burnout though.

basically if you're easy on the clutch and don't jerk it around alot you shouldn't have any problems.

The centerforce dual friction runs around $215 + shipping +instalation and is much better than stock, it's what I'm going to get.

My dad got his 86 RX-7 clutch readjusted a couple of times. He got it readjusted around 35K, 45K, then he sold it at 55K.

But yeah, if driven properly, a can be used for the life of a vehicle.

I'm up to 70,000 and its still running strong. and I autocross the thing so I'm not all that nice to it on race day, though autocross is nicer to it then Drag racing.

Ask anyone and they'll tell you the same answer - It Depends. In my experience, I usually go through clutches every 60,000 to 80,000 miles. I'm at 70,000 miles now and it's still grabbing hard. You can greatly extend the life of your clutch if you avoid:

1) Resting your foot on the clutch pedal while driving. I'm guilty of this more often than not. I guess they put that foot-rest dead pedal there for a reason!

2) Riding the clutch when stopped on an uphill road.

3) Riding the clutch in general.

With good clutch habits and no drag-race launches a clutch should last at least 100,000 miles.

well, I am normally easy on my clutch, like not keeping it pressed when at a light or something, and I don't race it at all. I was hearing it yesterday when I had the windows down and I could feel the peddle vibrate when I let go of it. I am gonna get it replaced anyway, cause I can't afford to have someone say it is ok when it makes noises and then I get broke down on the road somewhere. Thanks for all ur imput on this subject.
