Cobra Radar Detectors questions? hey
i just bought and installed the Cobra radar detector
and i was just wondering what the codes mean
i know that...
X = radar
L = laser
K = ?
Ka = ?
the manual doesn't indicate the meaning to them

x isnt radar. x is crap that pops up all the time for no fu(kin reason and is meant to **** you off. k and ka are the cop radar signals. ka is used more than k though. k is very rarely used for radar and will hardly pop up, just worry about when you see the ka start going off.ive never seen the L go off but i know you are right in thats laser. i know there is one for sirens too, but i forget that. and there is another letting you know if other people have radar, but i dont remember that one either.

Rep Power: 287 What's Sa mean then? It's either Sa or just plain S. I've gotten those a lot... put it on smartmute so it won't go off everytime you pass like a shopping center
do you cobra owners with the strobe alert get random strobe alerts? mine always goes off at random...and that noise is really annoying. sometimes it stays on for quite a while too

Rep Power: 512 there is no Sa on mine, just S which means strobe for emergency vehicles. mine S hardly ever goes off, the X however goes off allthe damn time!

Rep Power: 512 ive only had one ticket and i had the radar with me then. only reason the radar didnt help was that i sped past the cop and he flashed his radar on for a sec and i had no chance. it was at night though, so as soon as i started pulling over, i just told my friend in the passenger seat to hide it under the seat and that was the end of that. cop never saw the radar.
i do find it fun to **** of the cops by driving past them below or exactly at the speed limit when they are radaring you and point at the detector and laugh at them cause they cant do crap to you if you arent speeding.

Cobra is crap, the best that's out there right now is the V1, one ticket pays for itself, or the Escort or K40 sytems. You can get them with a laser diffuser. If you get hit with laser, all you know is you're fukked! The diffuser skews the return signal to the gun, so by the time you slow down , the laser shows a reasonable speed. I have a 1st gen V1 that has saved me at least 10+ times in the last 5 years, AND I DON'T SPEED!!!!!

Rep Power: 287 ha yeah, I was driving last weekend on the highway and it was around a curve and there was a cop car and a cop standing RIGHT outside his car with a radar gun pointing it to people...kinda stupid if you ask me...
I've gotten pulled over before on the highway with my radar. Funny thing was it wasn't plugged in because I was charging my phone. So he pulls me over and he's like so looks like your lil radar didn't work this time huh? and i'm like well....it's not plugged in actually lol and he didnt give me a ticket! He just said it was "illegal" to have something on my windshield like that and let me go with a warning!

Rep Power: 0 I'm not sure I'd point at the detector and laugh at the cop... you're a kid driving a modded Honda Civic, it's very easy to come up with some reason to pull you over. If you did that in Brecksville, they'd find a way to put you in jail ;-)
As far as falsing, I'm not sure about the Cobras, but my Bel has a few modes designed to prevent the usual "X" falsing. If I turn it to CITY X, it filters out all the 1 and 2 bar X alerts. I also have "AutoScan" that uses the amount of interference detected to automatically select between highway/city mode. If your Cobra has these features, that could save some irritation from falsing!

In a legit speeding ticket the cop came to my window with my detector bleeping 'Ka' insanely he just smirked and said "well I guess you know it works"
In one that I won, the cop went by me, as i was speeding with NO RADAR on, spun around, by then i had pulled ebrake (no visible brake light, VERY GOOD TRICK if you dont already know that) and fell under limit before i got clocked.
he claimed 65 in 45. now i know thats not true, i was giogn 55, but im not admitting that in court. but in court its about what the cop caught you doing, not what oyu were really doing!! REMEMBER THAT! I dont care if i was goign 80, did he catch me, or atleast see me slam the brakes until im 5 under limit if you SLAMMED them, you HAD to be going fast in general, your barely under, hence the ebrake trick.
in court, i explained the radar only went off after he spun around, at whicih point i clearly saw i was going 40. the officer exclaimed i was going much faster before then. I asked him if he caught that on radar, and if so, did he see me brake. He knew exactly what I did, so he didnt really fight that, but if he said yes, youd ask, did you see a brake light at all, since going in opposite direction it is quite difficult to judge speed and speed reduction by eye accurately.
At this point of course, because I know how to bullshit like hell, the cop is looking like an idiot. all charges dropped. cop KNOWING and admiting i did indeed have a radar detector gave validity to my claims to begin with and gave somethign to stand on to build up my point, at that point its not worth pursuing me at all in the courts eyes of course.
The only time you should be afraid of him seeing radar is if its banne in your state, which theres only a few it is, which is completely absurd, its liek banning radios, broadcasting on certain ranges is restricted, listening is never.
oh, and just IGNORE x, k ka etc are distinctively different from x and x doesnt bother me in the least, its when i hear the 'clicky' sounds i panic

Rep Power: 512 valentine 1s arent that good. if you want a really good one, get the passport escort. my friend's dad has one of those and it is by far the best radar detector out there.

if a police officer starts taking away something you paid good money for for no good damn reason at all thats asking for a world of lawsuits

Rep Power: 383 there have been threads on the escort and v1 so search for those, but i have the cobra and i speed only on long trips and i havent got caught, x goes off that is why i leave the vol low so i dont hear it
