this sounds like a way for somebody to track your car anytime they wanted to. i am no conspiracy theorist but the idea of some tracking where i am at all the time is not my idea of freedom. just buy a good alarm and get insurace and you'll be fine.

they don't tell the owner where it is placed because they don't want the owner to be able to take it out and make a phony insurace claim, because they buy you a new car if they can't find it.that's what the dealer told me.

well I got lojack installed by the dealership when i bought my car...I ended up getting my car for Dealer cost and and extended warranty for like no money,so i figured i'd just pay the 750 for lojack...gives me piece of mind and i like how the alarm system works compared to the factory honda one.my door handle lock automatically as soon as the car starts moving =)

yea thats true tho people say thats its equip in ur ECU thats just rumor but what if they trick us on buying the damn thing which they never install it the chance of your car getting stolen for them to track is 1 out of 10 by the time they track it its problay in piece on ebay.

Lojack only works if Polica cars in the areea have the antennas to locate the signal.
Mosst do not.

Also, Lojack warranty sucks.

If your car is stolen and stripped and then found the only thing that lojack will
pay for is the price you paid for lojack.

So for a stripped car that is found you get bay your $1000.00 bucks

LoJack is not the way to go. As someone stated prior, police cruisers must have a special LoJack receiver to pick up the signal. With more and more police departments getting new cars, less and less are being outfitted with LoJack receivers. Also, you must notify LoJack and the police that your car has been stolen for the transmitter in your car to be activated. This means, you could be sleeping, your car is stolen from your driveway and hours and hours later you wake up to find it gone. After the 30 - 40 minute shock and police reporting exercise, you car may very well be stripped down or outside your state.

You guys should look at a newer company called NetworkCar.

http://www.networkcar.com/networkcar/pub/main

I firmly believe this is the way to go! Check it out.

maybe is just my area but most police cars have lojack receivers in them and that is mainly the reason for me getting it. i have had no problems with the alarm they give you with it either.

My step-dad had it installed on the X5 when we bought it. His theory was that he didn't pay $60k for some punk to steal it. I personally wouldnt have, but whatever, I didnt pay for it nor is it my car.

Why the heck would that be the best deterrant? A thief is going to see that and be scared of a sticker?

Directed Electronics, also known as DEI, the same company that makes Python, Viper, and Clifford alarms just released their new GPS tracking system. It is a 3 wire hookup that can be installed with or without one of their other alarm/remote start products. You pay a monthly fee (As low as $8 I think) and can track your own car via a webpage (You have a certian amount of predesignated hits to track your car, determinded by your susscription package) If combined with one of their Alarm/Remote Start Units, you can have the car lock and or unlock the door, start your car via a cellular phone, see where the car has been recently, and see where it is presently. If the alarm is going off it can contact you via E-mail or cellphone, virtually unlimited range (Based on Cellular Coverage) and they can work with the local police to help get your stolen car back. Check it out.

LoJack is not a GPS system!! They can not "track" your every move with LoJack. LoJack is more like a homeing(sp?) beacon. If a police car has the LoJack receiver installed and a car with the LoJack activated passes it by it will get the signal. If there is no receiver in the cop car then they dont know where your car is. Again LoJack is not like OnStar they can not track your car. Thats false info. Thats why LoJack tells you that they recover 90% of the cars that are reported within "ONE HOUR OF IT BEING STOLEN". As stated earlier in this post if you dont know your car has been stolen and dont report it right away it can be stripped bare by the time you realize its gone. Anyway, if a thief wants your car he'll get it no matter what you put in it as far as security systems go. A good thiefs will always be one step ahead of the game, and those types of car theifs dont usually go for our low budget Civics.

Not to bring this thread back from the Dead, but I have a funny story about the DEI GPS system I was telling you about before. A customer of ours with a GMC Yukon who had made a substantal investment in TVs and Stereo equiptment bought the GPS system and had it installed. Recently he went to Las Vegas with some friends for a week and left his car at the Dealership to get an oil change. Randomly during the week in Las Vegas he got a call on his cell phone from the GPS company to notify him that someone has went over the speed limit he had set for his car (Overspeed notification) while he had left it at the dealership. So he went online and checked on his car. It turns out, his car was 40 miles from the Dealership, and through backtracking the route, it had been all over downtown the night before. The guy called up the dealership and asked how his car was doing, they said it was fine, and he asked why it was 40 miles away. They said it wasn't, it was in the lot, and he said, Yes it was, he was watching it right now. The service manager gets on the phone and proceeds to walk out to the lot where his car is supposed to be, and it is not there. It turns out that the grease monkeys at the dealership decided to take his car crusing the night after they finished his oil change, and pick up some women. Some girls who knew the real owner of the car say these guys driving around in it and even told them, you don't own this car. So back to the dealership, the same 3 idiots who took his car out on the town decided to drive it for lunch and go get hot dogs. Haha, the owner of the car activated the starter kill from las vegas and the dealership workers couldnt get it started after lunch, they had to have it towed back. They were all fired, the guy gets free oil changes for life, and a free custom 2-tones paint job.
