Revo SS is the best, it replaces the whole assembly rather then just changing the mounting point of 1 of the cables....

except the revo has an issue with play. The plastic seems to get chewed up pretty bad. Although it could just be mine. I have to adjust it now and then to get the play out. I'm considering buying a new one and putting a little peice of metal in there.

I'm talking about where the tension spring hits the plastic stop.

I have the REVO. . I fixed the play and bought CapYoda and Greys upgrade. . Huge huge improvement. .

The play is easy to fix. . If you are gonna get the REVO, just get it and PM me when you get it in the mail. I definately recommend CapYoda's bushings at the least to help with some of the play, I can explain how to fix the rest too if you want.

I have the Revo SS. I have both CapYoda's kit and Grey's kit. I dont know how it feels without these two because I installed it all at once. There is no play in my shifter. It feels strong, but make sure you put lots and lots and lots of that silicone lube they give you on ALL the moving parts.

If it moves, lube it up. Put gobs of it everywhere. Get it all over your hands and dont be afraid to get in there with it. The more the better and smoother the shift.

I have caps and Greys kit...both rock...they do nothing for the side to side play though Greys kit helps with front to back. The side to side is due to the metal eating the plastic on the stop. I had a thread a while back showing where I had to file to fix it...but it just keeps getting worse. Here Is the link to my thread with pics and an explanation.

I had the neuspeed adapter and it works okay. u wont have side to side play since its an adapter on the stock shifter. it gets the throw shorter and its stiffer. but it retains the stock height so u wont notice that much after a few days.

most short shifter u get use to though.. when I first installed the obx (revo replica) I was like wow! its short! its like a videogame joystick! then a few days later.. eh? stiff? short? I duno.

but once u go back to stock u're like holy crap this is long.

the side to side play has to deal with the plastic retaining the spring... the stock has a stronger spring and the plastic area doesn't get soft as easily.

also another point that brings about the side to side play is the ball joint on the bottom connecting the side to side motion.. hard to explain, but it doesn't fit the housing completely.. hence the play.

I wouldn't think so. why do you think u made a bad decision?

I'm saying after awhile u'll get use to the short shifter. u have to. I mean u drive it everyday you'll be used to the fact that its short.

not saying anything bad about it. this is something any kind of modification will do. i mean at first you'll be thrill and all, but after awhile u'll get use to it. like most things in life. boring! heh.

ooh. well that can't be helped. heh.

its not a big deal anyway. u wont notice it much. doesn't bother me.

i mean i dont hold my shifter and wiggle it all the time. *shrug*

u should still like the differences in shifting.. some people do. *shrug*

the only reason I went short cuz of the shift ****, it looks weird on the long stock shift stick.

Get the Revo SS kit, it's totally worth it. Get Grey's and Yoda's upgrade kits while you're at it, they do make a difference. I've only had it on for about a month, and I'm used to it, but I still like it. I'm soon adding a 440g heavy Skunk2 shifter ****, hoping it compliments the feel. No complaints, it has maybe a centimeter of horizontal wiggle, and no vertical. Not enough to be noticable, and a big improvement over stock.

I'm happy with it, and would recommend it to anyone.

Best to all,
Pol

yeah, i hear everyone complaining about the play...
is it worse than stock?

the play i have in my 03 EX is insane.

I can wiggle the shifter inside first gear more than my friends shifter moves from 1st to 2nd in his crx.

if i get the revo kit, will the play get worse?

I don't think very many people at all have been complaining about the play in the Revo. Like I said in my previous post, it's a VAST improvement over stock. If you add Grey's kit to it($6 IIRC), and the Aluminum bushings from Capyoda(if he's still out of stock, go to Kumosport, more expensive for the same thing though), you'll be just fine.

Grey's kit removes all of the vertical play. I still have about a single cm of horizontal play, but that's negligable, IMO, and I never personally notice it.

The aluminum bushings don't do anything to directly help the play, but they do shore the whole thing up very nicely and gives it a very solid feel. The bushings just give a solid mating of the shifter to the car's frame instead of the rubber bushings that it mounts through from the factory.

It was recommended to me by another member to top it all off with a Skunk2 shift ****. Nothing special about the brand name, but they're the only ones I'm aware of that make sucha heavy shift ****, 440grams. It all goes together to really enhance the driving experience, IMO, and would not hessitate to recommend it to anyone.

Best to all,
Pol

I didn't either at first. Give it some time. Take it apart now and superglue a piece of rubber band or metal or something in where the spring stop is. You'll be thankfull later.

Actually..you might not be thankful later...cause you'll never get the play in the first place.

just get the grey and capyoda upgrade! they both work great.
"play" would be unneeded motion in the shifter. if you can get rid of it you will have faster more precise shifts!

i have the revo ss, alluminum bushings, and greys upgrade. very big difference in fast shifts. but with your slower more daily shifts you acctually have to push it a little harder than stock to get it into gear.

there is like 20 threads on this subject maybe try the search button next time

I also have the Revo with CapYoda's and Grey's upgrades. I love it. I don't get that much play at all. A little more than when I first installed, but nothing to care about. It's all pretty solid. Even if my car was totally stock, I'd still change to the short shifter. It's a lot more comfortable, as our shifters are annoyingly too long IMO.
