tanabe srm scraping

don't get me wrong ... I like this exhaust. Ok, the piping might not be as straight as it could be ... ok, the muffler sticks out kinda far ... but I like it because it is quiet.

The biggest fault ... it scrapes on some speed bumps. Now here's the kicker ... my car is stock height ... what the hell!? Anyone else have this problem?... I had a custom exhaust and that sheit didn't scrape at all ... ever. Not even when I had 4 people in the car ... where as my Tanabe srm scrapes sometimes on some speed bumps while having just me in the car!

Well ... I just might sell this thing. I can't lower my car if this thing scrapes at stock height.

btw ... can anyone post pics of their EX exhaust system? ... specifically, I'm lookin for a pic of different exhausts where the cat flange connects to the catback flange. Both my custom exhaust and the tanabe had a rather large restriction ... and that was because for about an inch of space or so, the piping the connected to the flange was stock size and suddenly just expands to 2.25"

input plz! hehe

Yeah, I have the Tanabe SRM and I scrape sometimes. Its mostly the midpipe, and then sometimes the cannister but not as often. I hate it but I dont really worry about it since its stainless steel.

I dont see how your scraping though at stock ride height. I have Tein SS and slammed and I only scrape on certain speed bumper or drive ways if I take them incorrectly.

BTW- you cant call the Tanabe quiet....

If your tanabe srm is scraping at stock height there are 1 or 2 reasons why. Since you have an EX, the piping that came with the srm does not go all the way to the header which means it goes from the cat converter back which could affect the way it hangs. I have a LX and it sits soo close to the underbody of the car that it rattled against the heat shield until i fixed it (the piping goes from the header back). The other reason is that you installed it wrong, but who knows.

i have the Tanabe with Goldlines (1.75" drop) and i dont scrape nearly as much as i think you do, it scrapes on some speed bumpes and deep dips but thats it. it doesnt scrape nearly enough for me to complain about it, check your work, make sure everythign is installed right...

I have the Tanabe with neuspeed race (2.25") drop and it scrapes only on some hugh crazy bumper, other than that, i am fine with it.

And I personally think that the tanabe is much quite as I have expected, anyway, it's a great catback sytem overall.

I agree. The tanabe srm is a great catback: good sound, good design, and killer look.

hehe, well in my opinion, the tanabe srm is very quiet ;P ... compared to my custom exhaust, that **** seriously makes you deaf ... I literally would have one of the loudest exhausts in my area with the custom

hmm ... I have it installed correctly ... I don't know how you would not correctly install it and still have it work ...

however, I DO have a test pipe (no cat), which might make the tanabe srm hang a little lower ... probably not much though. The exhaust fits on all the hangers, connects and fits through all the bends ... it works ok.

it seems that I do have some pretty crazy speed bumps around here ... if I drive slow I usually don't scrape ... when I have one or more, I tend to get scared and drive ultra slow ... sometimes I'll hear it barely scrape ...

man, this sucks

Maybe its just me, and everyone who has heard my car- but the Tanabe is definately NOT QUIET. It sounds good, YES, but quiet, NO.

I honestly dont understand the huge hype for this exhaust. I mean, i like it and all, but I dont think it looks that great. I dunno, I am not planning on buying a Tanabe for my next car.

you just answered your own question, all the hype on this exhaust is cuz it sounds good, and its "dyno proven" to be the best exhaust for our cars BUT no one has yet to post a dyno of it but sadly i'm gonna lose the sweet sound but its cool cuz the low tone i known to love will be replaced by a "pssssshhhhh"

We had it on our project car and it was alright. Too large of a cansiter, little too loud, scraped only lowered 1.5".....

5 Zigen has been much more friendly to us on all of the above mentioned factors.
