chances a carbon fiber hood will fly off your car
I have a vis carbon fiber hood. Just wondering what the chances of a it flying off your car is with no hood pins.
i have vis cf hood too...i ran 100mph for 15 miles and fortunately it didn't fly off. from what i've heard...limit is i think 140 mph before the hood breaks open...but i don't think you want to have your hood flying now wouldja?

I think the member's name was Pedrito.........but his hood flew off while he was driving. THe bottom line is that you probably should spend the $10 for the hood pins to be safe.
Here are a couple of situations that have happened.......
1. The hood comes unlatched and flies off.
2. You get in a car accident. You rearend someone. The hood doesn't crumple like a stock hood. Instead it flex and bends. The stress causes it to break off the hinges and fly back through the window decapitating the driver and/or passenger. This has happened. It is my main reason for using the pins.

Either way you wouldn't be able to see if the hood flies up in your window! It would be like a bad chris farley/david spade movie.
I think one of the riciest things I've ever done was drill the steel hood on my '99 vic and put hood pins in. It took some carefull drilling not to dent or otherwise deform the hood. It was a fun little project to do on the weekend, but they were kind of a pain in the *** once they were installed.

I'm just trying to be safe and save your life. But some people want to be hardheads. That's your priority. Go ahead and don't spend the $10 it takes that just might save your life or your hood from breaking off at high speeds.

going through a lawyer sucks, i had to go through one with my street racing accident as i was being sued. But that was in the past and it was hell, i settle and had to claim full responisbility for the accident even though the bitch cut right infront of 2 cars racing without looking. If i didnt claim 100% i would have been probably in jail right now. I had full coverage so i only had to come out of it just paying the deductible. My insurance had to pay for the wreck and his medical bills.
ok more people with vis hoods let us know if you have hood pins!
I had thought my hood was going to be pretty heavy cause i though they use the stock underskeleton, but the vis is CF on top and plastic(i think) under skeleton. It felt like it weighed 10lbs

i have the VIS CF hood and i have sparco hoods pins in them... just spend the extra few bucks and buy the dam things.....u'll regret it if all of a sudden ur hood flies off adn hits ur windshiled....so now instaed of buying just hoods pins u have to buy a new hood (or put stock back on) and buy a new windshield..just giving u my advice and tryign to save u money just in case. and btw i bought the HOOD with hood pins already drilled in them so i had no choice anyway...haha
