Pivot Shift Light (F1 sequential lightup)
Does anyone know about the Pivot shift lights? It says that you only have to plug it into your cig outlet and it works. There is no wiring needed. I dunno how it reads your rpms if it isn't hooked up to the tach of your car.

The one I want is the SSL-PRO: 3-Step System Shift Lamp
■Used in F-1 and GT races, this shiftlamp comes complete with a warning lamp function.
■Lights are lit in order at RPMs below shiftpoint; blinking rapidly upon reaching shiftpoint.
■Light up color=Red
■The SSL-Pro does not require any wiring into the tach circuit, it plugs simply into the lighter or can be hard wired to the power supply.

i find that hard to believe..the cig. lighter only gives 12v and ground. Im guessing that the device itself has other means of detection..?

Yea, I wasn't sure what to think either, but they use them in race cars. True JDM fashion.....hehehe

i been reading reviews on clubrsx and other car forums. shift light does work. its kinda like g tech , that plugs into cig plug . im planning to get it eventually. or autometer pen size shift light
what does is it supposed to do? just tell you when to shift? what are the three lights for?
btw, they have a usa site where it lists the prices in dollars and also gives a little more info on their products: http://www.pivotusa.com/cgi-local/So...exe/?E+scstore

here is the instructions
From what it looks like there is an extra wire for the RPM signal, which is optional.
The pdf is a 1mb so dial up may be slow.

My friend has a Pivot in his 68 mustang (PIVRSL) and it sweet but it is hard wired to his coil.

it probably reads the RPM signal somehow. i used to work at an auto garage and i would take cars to inspection all the time.
sometimes the inspection guy would clamp some kind of wire around the spark plug wire and it would read the RPMS for the emission testing.
for cars like our civics and other cars that either dont have spark plug wires or the wires are too thin, he puts this "infinity" shaped antenna thingy on the windshield and it reads the RPM's to display on the computer screen, and its pretty damn accurate.
im guessing thats how that tach thingy works.

if you guys dont want to run a wire for tach through the firewall and under the hood, i can find which one it is in the gauge cluster when i put in my reverse glow gagues this week. although im sure if you search someone has already found it.

It works the same way the GTech and some Turbo/NA Timers work. The GTech is hooked up to a 12V source (Cig Lighter), and the Timer is hooked up to a 12V source (ignition wires). When you put a load on the engine there is a small fluctuation. On a turbo timer, if you have it set to auto, the harder you drive, the faster the timer counts up. Same idea with the GTech, same idea with this.
And since this works the same as the GTech and depends on the fluctuation in voltage... it's probably not going to be entirely accurate all the time unless you have the same load on the electrical system all the time. An example would be a slight change if you have the headlights on, as opposed to having them off.
