Having a grill in a hood is crazy.

But leaving them open is crazier. Doesn't seem very safe. Water, ice, snow, bird poop, cigarette butts, etc, would all probably not be very good for things under the hood.

yeah that is true, the engine is made for that kinda of stuff, it won't the engine unless something goes through the intake and into the head unit.
