4-1 or 4-2-1....that is the question.
...so what the hell is the answer? All I've deduced is, in general, 4-2-1 produce slightly less horsepower than a 4-1, but the power made comes sooner (i.e. lower RPM), and a 4-1 typically makes higher hp, but at a higher RPM. So my question is: In an EX, which would be better? Does it really just boil down to preference, or does one work better for the engine than the other. Also, which manufacturer makes the best header for the 7th gen. Is it HP, DC, or someone else?
DC makes a 4-1 ceramic or stainless steel for ours. A local shop told me they would give me a discount of one, and they said it is probablly the best out there. But I dunno, I just want the best for my car, street legal (DC) or not. I've got an Ex also.
the problem with all 4-2-1's is that it disrupts the exhaust pulses. With the 4-1, you get pulses of a vacuum in the exhaust tubes, which helps to pull the exhaust out of the cylinder on the next cycle...if timed correctly. I think 4-2-1's mess up this timing. And the only header AT ALL i've been able to find for the 7th gen is the DC sports 4-1.

ah no one mentioned random tech.
even if its carb exempt, since its a working highflow cat... there are rules to replacing ur cat convetor... depending on ur state law.

I was talkin' to like some 35 year old with a 90 Si who talks to the mechanics for one of the Honda dealerships here. And I asked him about headers, and he said that the honda mechanic said DC headers ARE THE BEST FOR HONDAS. I mentioned other brands but he kept saying DC. So I guess DC's are the best, A Honda mechanic who drag races his 1977 Lotus would know best about headers than all of us.
