Apex'i V-tech contoller question?
I know there are other posts on the V-tech controller, but what does it do? Does it increase horsepower anyway? I know it makes your v-tech kick in faster, but what does that mean or do for our car? Someone please explain this product to me in detail so I know what it is? Thanks
1. it's vtec not v-tech
2. it lets you adjust when to switch from low cam to hi cam and back from hi cam to low cam (when vtec engages and when it disengages).
vtec engaging means a new set of cam gears are used and more air is sucked into the engine.... which brings us to number 3
3. the apexi' vafc is a vtec air/fuel controller which means you can adjust stuff in #2 and adjust the how much fuel is added or reduced from the stock amount at each rpm range in increments of 100rpm. SO this means if you set vtec to engage at say... 4500rpm (lower than stock value) then you would want to add more fuel at 4500rpm to make up for the additional air getting into your engine. this is all because your ecu still thinks vtec is engaging at stock value (~5500rpm) and does not apply addtional fuel to make up for the increase in air until 5500rpm. i highly suggest getting an air/fuel ratio gauge with the vafc so you can tell when your running lean/rich and by how much so you can adjust accordingly.
btw this stuff is explained in NUMEREOUS threads like you said. Please refer to those for more info.

I dont' know the exact rpm which stock vtec engagement is, but i believe that mine is around 4200 rpm. The apex vtec controller allows u to set engagement from 3500 to 6000 rpm.
