$1,300 for a 1.2 inch drop?
hey, i went to a local car accessories place today and asked how much it would be for a 1.75' drop all around. 1rst off, the guy said that the only kit he has avai is 1.2 front and 1.4 back. then the total with springs, shocks and labor it would be 1300 bucks. they will be KYB shocks and Eibach springs. i read a lot about suspension on this site and for some reason that just doesnt sound right to me. are KYB shocks any good, cuz i see that almost every1 has Koni Yellows here and i know Koni makes good stuff. but what do u guys think, was the guy BSing?

i thought koni were the only available shocks for our car and they are just an insert. i paid 430 for springs (1.75" drop), camber kit and install at my shop, so depending on how much the shocks run you and the install for that, 1300 could be close to the cost.

yea, thats what i figured too, i saw it in the guys eyes; the way they were glowing with greed when he was trying to describe "the right way to do it". when i was putting on my rims a while back, the springs and the shocks didnt look like a very complecated thing to remove cuz its basically like one piece. plus when i look at it with logic in play, 1300 bucks to go 1.2 inches? what do u guys think is a fair price for springs, shocks and labor?

ha aznmike, i noticed. what i usually end up doing is picking out a couple stores that have the lower prices, but the thign i want for the lowest price and get it installed somewhere else cuz the car accessory stores charge a shitload for some reason when they install ur stuff. they all claim to be the best of the best and thats y the prices are high as hell. i wish i knew how to do all this stuff myself, i would make one sick *** ride

On another note, KYB did come out with shocks for our cars, but they're suppose to be replacement shocks for stock only, NOT lowering shocks. As for lowering shocks, Koni are your only choice. Installing the Konis isn't an easy job though. They're inserts, so it requires that your factory shocks be broken apart. It isn't simply taking out the factory set up and replacing it with the aftermarket one. With true coilovers though... that's a different story.
So with 1300 bucks, might as well get Teins.

Actually IMO, getting springs, shocks, and a camber kit IS the right way to lower a car. Why take your suspension apart so many times when you can do it all at once? *shrugs*

what is the tein SS kit? is it coilovers or what? i read a lot of stuff in the suspension category and it seems that the stock shocks on our cars suck, thats y i'm kinda affraid to just get the springs, i dont wanna blow out my shocks and then have to get new ones and pay once again for the labor. and r u sure that the KYB shocks the guy was talking about arnt for lowering, cuz if their not then the guy who i was talking to is a lying ***** cuz y would he sell me diff. brand stock shocks instead of the actual shocks designed for lowering? i know that getting springs, shocks and camber kit is the right way to lower a car, i just think that 1300 bucks for a 1.2 inch drop is a waste of money

Rep Power: 375 TeinSS are full coilovers.They replace not only the springs but the shocks as well. The SS is a full replacement and run around 1100.00 for the set and allow dampering adjustability as well as a drop from stock to about 2in all the way around. Tein Basic are pretty much the same thing minus the dampering adjustment and about 300.00.

if i lower the car about 1.5' on stock shocks, is there a really good possibility fo them blowing? i dont think i can go lwoer then that cuz i already barely clear my driveway by about 2 inches witht he front bumper.

Rep Power: 0 i have mine dropped for almost a year with goldline springs (1.75") and stock struts and i live in pittsburgh, the roads are about, if not worse, than philly. so it isnt absolutly neccassary to get new struts right off the bat. i did get a camber kit to save my tires a bit.
p.s. you will mroe than likly get answers to your questions when u ask them thorughout yur post. if you were to come right off the bat and say..."what are tein ss" then ppl would probably say "search noob". but you didnt so you got an answer.

Rep Power: 334 i have progress lowering springs and they are quite low.. liek 1.75 and i dont think my shocks are too bad. maybe just the front right shock. i pops wen i go over a speed bump =/

Rep Power: 0 if you just want to lower your car then i would recomend getting springs and a camber kit. then a 4 wheel alignment(a must when lowering). i'm runnin on stock shocks and so far so good. i have Eibach sportlines, drop 1.4 all around, but i think because i have a sedan the springs have settled more than 1.4.
oh yah!! the hairlip is rippin you off. check out the group buys on this site for the springs and camber kit.
CircaX has a good deal on SPC Camber kit, alot of people on this sight have got there kits from him. GOOD GUY.

Rep Power: 0 i lowered my car with Neuspeed sports (1.75 drop) and still have my stock shocks... the ride is pretty good considering my shocks are stock... and i picked them up for $150 plus install...

i think 1.75 drop would be too much, the lowest i can go is prolly 1.5 cuz with my body kit i have a 2 inch clearence over my driveway and thats going in and out at an angle. i think a 1.5 inch drop would be pushing it unless i wanna leave my car in the street over night. however, i wish i could slam it but thats an impossibility for me; too bad i dont live in Cali

Rep Power: 0 If 1.75 is too much then you should checkout H&R sports 1.3 drop all around. I don't think Eibach has a spring set that gives our cars a 1.2 front , 1.4 rear drop. They do have the prokit which is a 1" drop and the sportline 1.4 " drop all around. Stay away from that shop!!! For $1300 you can get fullcoilovers like the others said. I would wait until KYB releases their AGX series adjustable shocks for our cars. KYB AGX shocks are reasonably price with good performance. I emailed them and they said that it's still in development and it should be released by the end of this year.
Cartunerz.com has the H&R sports for 154 shipped and I got my full camber kit from 7thgencivic member danscreations for 129 shipped.
Whatever you do, don't pay $1300 for that garbage that guy was selling you!

yooo before i moved to philly for college i bought some goldlines. now i cant put them on because as it is right now i can barely fir in the garage. i have .5 inches of clearance to park cus there is a hill infront of my garage. in my opinion u cant go around in philly wiht a slammed car. so im prolly gonna get rid of them not sure yet. need money to add the the R6 fund. good luck wiht the suspension job

Rep Power: 334 yeah i have stock shocks. they seem to be holding up fine. i think the right spring pops outta place or something over speed bumps. no biggie though. i live in philly all my life so i can avoid alot of the bumps.. ahha i got it memorized =P

Rep Power: 0 I just installed koni yellows with H&R sports with front and rear camber adj and full alignment... parts/labor = 970. I got a dope discount cause they guy is a koni/H&R distributor. But he is a Mazda specialist... so I'd like to have the work checked out by a real honda aftermarket pro... anyways.. the rides great tho... the H&R are a bit too low for me.... good thing for bump stops... teehee

only difference is that you cant adjust damper setting with tein basic. no biggie. tein basic's price is getting cheaper and cheaper now days.less than 900 shipped on most of places
