Adding Cruise Control to 2006 LX, need info please.

New member, first post. Looks like a great place for info.

I did a site search and some other web searches, but I found nothing definitive on which part number(s) I need to add a CC to an '06 that didn't come with it OEM. I've seen some sites break up the model years up to 05 and then resume at 07, which seemed weird.

Anyway, could someone point me in the right direction for this? Is the install pretty simple? I know that some cars/trucks come with much of the wiring in place, making install super easy. Does the 06 Civic come like that?

Any and all info very much appreciated. Thanks!

How mechanically adept are you?

Because this is a major safety concern.

If you install it incorrectly and the vehicle locks with throttle open, then you'll be up the creak.

That model year is drive by wire, so the ECU controls the throttle position.

-What I know you would need
-Cruise control integrated steering wheel
-Cruise control operation switch on dash

-what you may need
-different ECU
-harness
-cruise control brake sensor

Thanks mac25.

I spoke with a guy at Rostra (maker of aftermarket CC kits), and he told me if it's a "mechanical throttle", their universal kit will work. He also said that they had no kit for the other kind of throttle, which is I think what you said - a "drive by wire" kit.

I've called a couple of install places, and they seem to think they've got a kit for that particular car. And still others say there is no kit that works for it.

2005 Is the last year of cable driven throttle bodies for civics. 2006 and up are ECU controlled drive by wire units.

So in order to add CC you will need to gather the parts from a scrap car.

Yep, after a little more searching this morning, I'm seeing that. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

Re: Adding Cruise Control to 2006 LX, need info please.

I see that I could buy a steering wheel cover that has the buttons on the right side and a wire connector on the backside of it. Would that suffice? Or would there be a number of other wires needed to get it all set up? I had a 2005 Corolla that only required a lever with small wired connector that plugged into existing wires and off I went.

I'd look myself but don't actually have the car. It's a ways away, and not even mine at this point.

I think there is also another set of buttons on the dash which operate the on/off CC function. The steering wheel should be for setting cc speed.
