I have a 2006 Honda civic hybrid the transmission just went bad so I did some research and I found out that only the 06 transmission will fit the 06 model so I found one the guy showed me paperwork and the vehicle it was an 06 so I bought it. Now got the old one pulled and new one ready to go in but here is my concern there are two sensors right next to each other on the old trans. The new one only has one sensor and the hole where the other one would be is welded shut. What is this sensor? Can it work without it? What are my options? Thank you for any help.

You know that 07 model year cars were sold as early as August 06, right?





I'm digging in the parts catalog.....shows 06 as having those 2 sensors, and 07 and newer use only one.

You don't have the correct trans. End of story.

I would not waste time installing the wrong trans. You will only cause yourself more grief.

Okay bummer must have been an early model 07. Is there anywhere I can buy a complete rebuild kit for this transmission?

Kit? You're on your own there. I'm not familiar enough with aftermarket sources to give any info.

Factory catalogs show the internal parts.

Does anyone know what year the one is that I do have in the picture on right I was told it was 06 but doesn't seem like that's the case.

I just talked to our local dealership and one of the techs just told me that the Japan models have the one sensor and the American models have two so I believe that is the issue!

The one on the right has to be an 07-11 model year Hybrid CVT trans.
My US catalog says 07 and newer have the single sensor.

Only 06 model year uses the two sensors that yours has. You have to use a trans from an 06 model year.


Tell him to guess again:
The first letter in your VIN is a "J". That's Japan built.

All of the Hybrid Civics were built in Japan and shipped to North America. None were built in the US or Canada.

Please refer to real documentation as a reference, not a tech---you have no idea who actually knows what-- and we all look alike to most people.

FWIW, I was looking in a real dealer parts catalog (USA) for my info about which years used one or two of the sensors.
I sure didn't know it off the top of my head.
