OTOH, if you really are considering a car with 162,000 miles and you think you really want it, you need to have a professional prepurchase inspection done on it before buying.
Hopefully by someone familiar with the cars that will look for known problem areas.

Got all maintenance records for the car?
Timing belt done? Oil changes?
Head gasket done already?
Why is someone getting rid of it? There is ALWAYS a reason.
