problems with vtec and detonations

hi guys , i have civic 2000 , Coupe ek . i swapped 1.5 eco vtec , everything works but rpm doesnt go more then 5.5 , no check engine light or something , and it shoots like detonations and smells petrol when i start car , smells very bad , what is wrong with it help me ,

Re: problems with vtec and detonations

Check timing belt for incorrect cam-crank relationship (jumped time), this could cause poor running, low vacuum, low power, detonation, and ignition timing would be out of spec by 10-20 degrees or more....

What happened to the previous engine, what sort of failure? Check for catalytic converter and/or exhaust restriction.
