My car had an old after market radio so i bought one that was a bit newer. My friend installed it (he has some experience installing radios in other cars. first time with a civic). When he took the old radio out there was a little box connected to the yellow wires. My friend disconnected it and has the red and yellow wires together. The new radio has no memory and i have read that it has something to do with the yellow wire. Should that box be in the circuit or does it really not matter.

Civic or not, a radio is a radio. Wiring is wiring.

It's an RF choke. Noise filter.
It did not come packaged with your new radio.
It should go out with the old radio until you know otherwise.
