AC problem?

For some reason my AC turns on when i turn the defrost or heat on. This morning i started the car and turn both defrosts on, and came back and the AC light was on? Anyone one know?

I wasn't for sure but the Online Owner's Manual says to run the AC in cold weather once a week, and maybe the car is set to do that?

Re: AC problem?

yeah its setup at the factory like that. theres a "secret code" to make it so you can press the a/c button and turn it off in defrost mode. search the forums. if i remember, you turn the car off, then set all the climate dials to the far left (fan off, temp cold, and forward vent), hold down the a/c and recirc buttons together, then keep holding them and turn the car to ON position without starting the engine. wait until each button indicator light blinks, i cant remember which one starts first but once the second button starts blinking, let them go and turn the car off. now next time you set defrost, the a/c will still come on but you have the option of pressing the a/c button and it will turn off.

heres the big thread

Re: AC problem?

Okay thanks, the previous owner must have set it to where you can turn the ac off, because i can turn it off when in defrost from the button. I was just wondering if something was wrong with it turning on like that. Is there any code to make it not come on at all?

-thankz

Re: AC problem?

no, it always comes on no matter what. the code just makes it so you can turn it off.
