Optima Yellowtop or Duralast Gold?
Okay. i know i might get flamed for this. but which battery? Optima yellowtop D51 $149 ( just re-released by optima) or Duralast gold $80? The optima is 12 months free replacement with the next 12 months prorated, spill-proof, protection from vibration. Duralast has 8 year warranty, first 3 years is free replacement, with the remaining 5 years prorated.
Usage in Months/Length of Warranty X Original Purchase Price = Prorate Charge
And it would help if you've had either or both of these batteries. I had an optima yellowtop but it died after 2 years. So I'm just asking which one would you recommend by what I said and by what you know? thanks

lol ok same deal so dont flame me for this one im an employee for 7 yrs now ive had both and just depending on your demands the gold handles alot better for the price and warranty demands but autozone now makes a gell cell also which is made by johnson controls the same people that make interstate batteries. As i said though ive had both and paid retail for both and like the duralast gold its even in my race car so.....

the optima is only really needed if you are draining your battery down often, like with lots of accessories or using stuff with the car off. you will need to trickle charge it occasionally when the voltage dips low. otherwise the regular duralast is fine for starting. it will not be happy if you drain it below 12v tho...

Hi Bb0iPn0y,
While I understand that this is a 4-year-old thread, since you replied, I thought I would comment.
In your original post, you asked about the difference in the two mentioned batteries, other than cost. The YellowTop is a deep-cycle battery and while it works fine as a starting battery and general OEM needs, it will perform fine with big stereo systems and other high amperage requirements. Your recent post leads me to think you have some need for more amperage, with your question about larger alternator. I recommend you consult a professional about both what size alternator and wiring you would need to upgrade to, since that decision should be based on your individual needs and requirements. FWIW, our batteries now are free replacement for 3 years.
I hope this helps, but feel free to ask any question you may have about our products.
Thanks,

Thanks Bill for the info. Well, I do have a stereo system in my car. Just wondering if it would be beneficial to have a higher output alternator running with a yellowtop or should the yellowtop be good enough. Im only pushing one 12" and I'm not blasting it so that the whole neighborhood can hear me.
