Need new set of tires for 18' 5zigen

Not to long ago I bought 18' 5zigen rims with wanli tires. Wanli tires are crap big time. They are too noisy but the treadwear is good. Right now I have 225/40/18 and I want to change them for another set of tire to have a quite and comfortable ride. So I thought maybe 215/45/18 but I'm not sure what tires to buy.

So I'm looking for comfort @ 8/10 and road noise @8-9/10 rating.

Not looking into high performance, maybe 6-7/10. Doesn't matter if summer tires or all-season, since I will be putting winter tires. My budget is around $500 shipped. Please help me choose the right tires for me. If you have any experience with 215/45/18, please let me know. Or any other recommendations...

By the way, the rim is 18 x 7.5

I posted this in other section, then I though it's better to post it here since I'm from 7gen!

check out tirerack.com there's reviews and what not on there.. I suggest Nitto tires tho they're nuts.

I hear ya on the Wanli tires haha, I had those and it sounded like I was riding around on 33" offroad truck tires

What will be the difference in driving quality if I switch from 225 to 215 and from 40 to 45 ?

if you can stay with te 225/40/18, stay with them, nitto neo-gen ftw.. cheap, trustworthy tires! i like them, never had them, but no-one complains.. but if cheaper, no! goto a local Discount tire co and buy from them, i can tell you places charge rediculous when you carry them in, it's too much that way, and at least you get a lifetime balance roto, and flats, etc. when you buy from my company i work for! DTC FTW!

Mine are too loud when I drive at 20-25 mph and 45-50 mph. When I go 40mph or over 60 mph, I almost don't hear them.

So I wanted to change the tire width from 225 to 215 so there could be less tire/road traction and from 40 to 45 series to make it more comfortable and smooth.

However, If I keep 225/40/18 will I experience rubbing issue If I do 1.4' drop? Right now it looks like it will touch the suspension because the tire is width. Please advise....

Re: Need new set of tires for 18' 5zigen

I doubt there will be a rubbing issue, although I'm running 225/45/17's on a 1.3" drop. I've had both 40 series tires and 45, and you lose some performance w/ the 45's but the ride is a lot better, and you're less likely to bend a rim. I cracked my rim w/ the 40 series, but they handle like nobody's business

its either crazy handling/possible bent rim as opposed to less performance/peace of mind I actually have a pic too that compare the two tires. hope that helped ya bud.

Thanks for your help, dude. I will stick with the 225 then since it's easier to get. It's a common size for 40/18.
