turning the rotor?

I'm replacing my front brake pads. When I called the mechanic, he told me it would be $40 just for the labor to replace them. He also mentions something about turning the rotor, and that would be an additional $30-40. Is that like grinding the rotor? Do I really need that?

Re: turning the rotor?

yes you should resurface the rotor. the thing is that a new rotor from autozone is about $13. So why bother resurfacing the old ones?

So "turning" the rotor is the same thing as resurfacing/grinding the rotor? Also do you recommend I buy new rotors at autozone as opposed to getting them resurfaced? I guess that would be a better deal, but are the rotors at autozone better than the oem?
