Hi,

I do own a 1998 Honda Civic EX Sedan, and I love it. I want to change my car, and was wondering about the 7th gen. Civic Hybrid (03 to 05). I know all the Civic's have been really awesome cars & really good Quality for the money, and I would imagine those Hybrid's are the same, but just in case I want to check for more information before buying one of those.

It's seems like there is no information on those Used Civic Hybrid, probably because they didn't sell a lot of those, but I do hope it's because people are scared of that technology, not because they were bad cars, lol

First, it would be nice to know if they are even recommended to buy as a good used car purchase, you know...

And Does anynone knows or have heard about something wrong with those Hybrid's ?? Does the CVT Transmission is working good or had some problems ? Does the batteries inside that car are holding up for a very long time ? Is there any special Maintenance you have to do on those vehicles, if yes, is it expensive? Etc...

I hope some of you have some comments or maybe links to help me...

Well, you haven't entered in your location yet, but a word on Hybrids in colder climates. Because batteries are less efficient when they are cold, you will not get as good of gas mileage as your southern counterparts may. My uncle owns a Toyota Prius and he gets around what I get in the Bostonian winters (38-43mpg).

The other thing to watch out for is that eventually the battery pack will need to be replaced and you can count on that to be at the least $5-6,000. I don't know of anyone that has has to do this yet, but be aware that the expected life of the OEM batteries are around 7-8 years depending on use and climate.

Yeah see, I do come from Presque Isle, Maine. So we do get hard Winter, so I would imagine that it will be hard on the battery pack & I might not get a lot of Fuel Economy in the Winter Time.

I live in NJ and have a 2004 HCH, MT.

My lifetime MPG is 54.4. I can get nearly 63 in the summer.

The car's battery is under warranty until 100k miles. 150 miles in some states (Calif). I have 125k miles and have not had a single problem with it.

Other than fluids, filters, headlights, tires and wipers, I have only replaced the spark plugs (at 110k). The brakes are due to be done this spring, and will have close to 130k miles on them when I remove them.

I don't baby the car, but I am not a lead foot either. My commute is 112 miles RT to work, 85 percent highway at 60-65 mph.
