Lets do some math, shall we..
Tire A 205X40X17
Tire B 225X45X17
Tire A is 205mm wide 82mm tall and fits a 17" rim
Tire B is 225mm wide 101.25mm tall and fits a 17" rim
Tire A: 205 millimeters = 8.07086614 inches X 82 millimeters = 3.22834646 inches
Tire B: 225 millimeters = 8.85826772 inches X 101.25 millimeters = 3.98622047 inches
As you can see from the pics. Nitto does not conform to the normal rule of thumb. Their sizing strays from the norm a little
TIRE A

TIRE B

Note in the picture the diff in Height.

Tire A does not fit the wheel very well.

Tire B fits nicely.

Here is a pic of Tire B on the car and done.

There is no rubbing at full lock in either direction. I am setting on Tokico Blues with stock springs. I do not have a sub box in the trunk currently but I do have a full tank of gas.
Yes, I plan on lowering the car about an inch. I will probably use the Pro Kit but may get the H&R's instead. I have yet to make up my mind for sure.

dude ur crazy, i just switched from 215/45/17 to 215/40/17 and its a huge difference, almost an inch in height, its an aspect ratio, not a measurement, so its 5 % less sidewall
Re: Alpha's ES2 lots of pix. I can't wait to get mounted. post 70
haha i just realized i apparently cant read.
its a way bigger difference than i thought..
i realize that the series number is a ratio of sidewall to width. so if you have a 45 series doesnt that mean 45% of the width of the tire?

I have a question Matt. Does the overall difference in diameter have any effect on your speedometer or is the difference negligible?

you will never notice the difference in your speedometer unless you change from 15s to 24s...going from 14 or 15 to 17 wont make that much difference that is noticable

with the current tires, 225x45x17, while driving an indicated 70 my tomtom shows 73. So they are off a little. Nothing too bad.
While on the stock size, and driving an indicated 70 the tomtom would show 69.

Jacks are cool, IDC.
Just like in Clints, long as there is a point to the jack then, as my dad told me, Jack away.

Well here are some pics of my ride.
I took them with a full tank of gas and 1 person in the pass side.
From the look of them I do not know if I want to drop the car anymore....

Here is one at the tire place while the stupid ***' tried to replace the wheel stud.

Yeah I say it doesnt even look like it needs to be dropped. Do you ever bottom out with that wheel and tire package?

Re: Alpha's ES2 lots of pix. I can't wait to get mounted. post 70
It is impossible for the bottom of my car to touch the ground with this wheel and tire package. So NO, I do not ever bottom out.
There is no fender rub either and my fenders are NOT rolled.
