Rep Power: 0 Noob question, auto tranny fluid 91 DX
I just picked up a 91 Civic DX, owners manual states dexron II for the automatic trans. I thought I read several posts not to use dexron II or III, but to use the Honda ATF instead. Also while changing the spark plugs I noticed one of the plugs was covered in engine oil, not the threads, just the area covered by the spark plug cap. Any words of wisdom? Thanks.

Use the Honda ATF, most honda manuals say you can use Dexfluid in a pinch for a short time but Honda ATF is highly reccommended. As for the oil on the plug, it's called a spark plug tube seal. They are usually a dollar or less. You will have to pull the valve cover off to change so you might as well change the valve cover gasket too. Thanks, Honda ATF it is. Since I was going to adjust the valves, I guess I'll find out what the plug seals are all about. Much appreciated.
