Clutch sticking last few inches. What's wrong *Pics*

So basically my clutch it sticking those last few inches of play it has before it makes the clutch engage, threw me out of first gear when it did that.

There's a little grease looking fluid leaking from the black boot behind the clutch pedal not sure what any of these parts are called as I'm new to messing with manuals

Wondered does it need a new cable? Need greased up? It makes some wierd noise when I rev it up in neutral by the clutch like a paper clip tapping a metal bucket...any ideas guy? PICTURES BELOW

Also what's the nut behind the clutch that is able to loosen and tighten, does it adjust play in the clutch

What year is your car?

Is that oozing grease or brake fluid?

That's a hydraulic clutch master cylinder. There is no cable.

That nut should not be loose, someone has been hacking around in there before you? Adjust correctly per FSM and lock it down, BUT see below, you may need to set adjustments up all over again:

Master cylinder could have broken the internal return spring. Seen that a few times here, can cause a few different feels (all very wrong) depending on how and where it breaks.

It's a 1992 Civic cx with a del sol d16z6...looks like a small amount of black fluid dripping, probably have air in the clutch master system? I should replace

i just tightened to adjustable screw on the back of the clutch, it makes the clutch feel brand new...it now engages earlier and not at the very last inch like it has...i dont think it was tightened when i bought it to be honest

i have always had to rev it high to get it to take off smooth, probably because the clutch wasnt adjusted properly.

Re: Clutch sticking last few inches. What's wrong *Pics*

If the pushrod adjustment was backed off, that would sure let the pedal engagement height slowly change as the rod screws itself in, but the title of your thread and the first line of the post made me think it was a different and sudden issue.

If simple adjustment of the pushrod took care of the problem, that's great

Keep an eye on whatever oozes out of the boot.... I'd expect it had a bit of grease in there which is normal...but if it leaks brake fluid that's bad.

ok so either it was the loose bolt on the pushrod that was making the clutch pedal not fling back up, or the leaking clutch master.

Either way i replaced it! first time ever replacing one, thanks to ericthecarguy on youtube i bled the system myself, took a while, not sure if i got ALL of the bubbles out, will it hurt if there are still some in there? cause damage in the future?

anyhow, i set the new clutch master pushrod and bolt to the same length on the old one, feels much better, about 1 inch of play, and the clutch engages about 2 inches before the floor. and great pressure! im proud hahaha only took 2 hours overall!

If there's air still tapped the pedal might feel a little spongy, but if it's working ok you must have the majority of the air bled out.
